We have stayed in The Nittany Lion Inn many times over past 30 years and have stayed in wide variety of rooms. All were different and VG to excellent. The Hotel gives everyone a warm welcome and efficient check-in. The lobby always have a basket of red delicious apples to welcome guests and in season an inviting fireplace. It is the only Hotel on campus and within walking distance of Art Museum, Rec Hall, Nittany Lion Shrine, Hub, Creamery, Stadium . and town as well and many other attractions. If you prefer they have a free van to take you and pick you up in town , airport, and some attractions(You'll want to tip the excellent personable drivers). Complimentary parking is available in front of Inn and in adjacent garage. Meals are available in the Inn's main dining room and appetizers ,salads ,soups (try their lobster bisque!) and sandwiches in Whiskers Lounge (also free freshly popped popcorn). The Inn has Garden patios ,Courtyards, and Verandas for people that enjoys outdoors. The landscaping and flowers are beautiful.
Free wireless internet. Prices vary a lot during the year. Most expensive football weekends and graduation. Many weekends and weekdays very reasonable. A Penn State Tradition since 1931.

Room Tip: The hotel is very spread out . Some people prefer to be near elevator. We prefer to walk the hallway...

Stayed here with my son to visit Penn State. What a wonderful place to stay! Friendly staff, comfortable room, nice bathroom, charming historic hotel, and a great location for a visit to Penn State. Easy walk to campus and downtown restaurants (they offered the use of a free shuttle, which we didn't use). I got a great deal through Priceline which made this stay even better. Only suggestion for improvement is to update the bed coverings. I would definitely stay here again.

Many universities have a special signature hotel on campus that captures the essence of the campus. That's the Nittany Lion Inn. It's a place where future students and parents mingle in the lobby with alumni that have been coming back to campus for 5 decades. All with some form of PSU clothing or luggage. I stayed here a number of times over the last four years, the first on our "college" visit. This past weekend for a PSU event and four weeks before graduation. Every time has been special. The Hotel just looks fantastic and is well maintained. The staff is always smiling and eager to help. I don't believe I've ever touched the front door as there is always someone there to grab my bags if needed. The rooms are pretty nice. I would update the bedding and pillows, but that's really the only issue. They sport two great restaurants, one a pub and the other very traditional. Parking is very easy with a 30 second walk to one of the campus parking garages. It's a great place to start a walk of campus as it's a minute from the Nittany Lion shrine. If you're visiting campus for the first time, stay here. If you're back for your 50 year PSU reunion you already know where to stay.

Room Tip: The hotel is long so if you're away from the main elevators it could be a hike.

I stayed for two nights attending a youth sports meeting at this facility. I was wondering what to expect, as the hotel's web site is somewhat minimal. The place looks old, but I was pleasantly surprised to find most features have been kept up to date. Staff seemed very helpful, room was clean, and technology (TV, wireless internet) all worked fine. Price, at least for our group rate, was great! I experienced the catering menu with a couple of meals in our meeting, and had no complaints (did not try the onsite restaurants). The room was fine - the only drawback being one can easily hear noise from the corridor. The place is quite large, and it can seem like a bit of a maze. There are over 200 guest rooms. Easy walk to downtown State College for restaurants and shopping. If I had a reason to be on the Penn State campus, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Further you are from the elevators likely less noise from other guests (easy to hear corridor noise...

My son and I were here for a hockey tournament. We decided to splurge a little. We had a fabulous time. Our room was very nice, but not as nice as the picture on the website. My son thought we would get canopy beds. We ordered room service twice and it was very good and priced well. The staff couldn't be friendlier. My son enjoyed the free apple every morning especially since he had some early morning games. We also loved the Keurig machine. I should have brought a couple of my own cups. We had breakfast at the hotel on a Sunday. We were early, so we had the breakfast not the brunch. The breakfast was a buffet, good, and reasonably priced. Most of the time we parked in front of the hotel, but when we couldn't, there was a garage right next door that we used. The front desk gave us a pass and it wasn't terribly inconvenient. The hotel is right on campus and close to everything. The only negative to our stay was the beds and the noise. The beds weren't very comfortable and I tossed and turned all night. In addition, we were in the room above the front door and as a result the people that were coming in late and loud could be heard in our room as well as the people up and at it really early. Overall, I would stay here again due to the staff, charm, convenience and restaurants.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your experience -- and certainly thank you for sharing your thoughts about the property and our team! Our apples are a time-honored tradition that we are glad your son enjoyed.
Part of the charm of the Inn is that we have many room options and floor plans to suit what most fits your needs. Many of our deluxe rooms do have canopy bedding and certainly we can note that as a desired room feature on upcoming stays with us. We are also excited to say that we have begun a project to replace the mattresses throughout the property, so we look forward to giving you a more restful night's sleep on your next visit!

This is a beautiful hotel on the Penn State campus. It has a professional and friendly staff, clean and nicely decorated rooms, great amenities, and wonderful restaurants. It is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. I highly recommend this hotel. It is worth every penny!

The overall layout and style shows the age of this hotel, in a good way. The corridors leading to the hallways with rooms are open, with views, seating areas, and bookshelves. There was a wood fireplace in the lobby with a gentle fire surrounded by the tick tock of a grandfather clock. It's a step back in time, but with modern amenities like free wifi and kureg brewers in the rooms. The rooms were a little small, but expected in an older hotel. I could not hear anyone in any rooms around me. Downtown and campus were easily walkable. I would definitely stay there again.
