“Beautiful brand new museum!”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

It was well worth the time to visit. Everything is state of the art in their brand new facility. There are a lot of hands on displays where children are able to interact with various displays. The docent on site is very helpful as well. My husband, an oil and gas guy, enjoyed going out and looking at the first well.

My husband has wanted to visit for a long time. We finally packed up the kids for a day of what 3 of us feared would be boring. Not so.... the museum is very interactive. The staff was helpful and attentive. We spent about 2 hours exploring the museum exhibits, reading the plaques, opening drawers touching sandstone & Marcellus shale, and testing what we learned on an interactive quiz computer game. That was only inside the museum - outside we explored the well and learned a great deal about the process. The property is beautiful. The one question I had while planning this trip was what is the best way to incorporate the Museum & the Oil & Creek Railroad. Little did I know... there is a train stop right at the Drake Well. We took a break from the exhibits hoped on the train for a ride, then came back and finished up with the outside exhibits. Overall, it was a very pleasant day spent as a family.

“This is where oil started”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

A very good museum explains the starts of oil in this country. The buildings and exhibits on the property add much to the museum. The original drill hole is now rigged to pump crude oil from a tank and is recirculated. But the hole is there and you can touch the crude that comes out if you want oil on your hands. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable about oil in Pennsylvania and will gladly answer questions. On the day we went, there were several demonstrations of activities in the oil days (i.e., barrel making). It was a fun time and educational.

“rainy educational”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

we enjoyed learning about the history of oil. The movie was interesting as was the museum. We would have enjoyed the outside exhibits more if it hadn't been raining.
