Stony Point Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Tyrone B&B and Inns
Reviewed 23 August 2013

Stony Point B&B was the perfect setting for our family vacation. Our family members came all the way from Arizona, New Mexico, and Europe. We were happy to be in such a fabulous house in conveniently located Tyrone. One day we visited Prince Gallitzin State Park, another night we walked to dinner in town, and other days we visited extended family in nearby towns. One evening we all got together around the fire pit at Stony Point and talked for hours. Paul is a fabulous innkeeper who made us all feel at home. The place itself is spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated without being overdone. All the rooms were more than comfortable. And it was great to hear and see the history in the home itself. We would definitely recommend Stony Point. I can't imagine staying in a hotel again after the personal connection we had here.

Room Tip: Just tell Paul what you need and he will do what he can to accommodate you.

Stony Point B & B was a wonderful stop half way on our cross country drive from Boston to Indianapolis. We were greeted by Paul, who is very friendly and full of knowledge on the beautiful house. The rooms were clean, comfortable and lovely. We felt like we were at our home! Paul will go out of his way to take care of you (rent a movie, help if you forgot something)! Lastly, the breakfast was great!

It is worth noting that if you are the type of traveler who likes high end 4 and 5 star hotels, this B & B may not be for you. It specializes in representing the era it is from and feeling like you are at home. Don't get me wrong, it is really lovely, but It does not have the amenities of a spa or four or five star hotel. If you are up for some history, uniqueness and feeling very welcome, it is your place.

Room Tip: I was traveling with my husband and daughter. There is a suite or apartment on the third floor with...

My husband and I decided to do a quick overnight trip this past weekend. I was hoping to find a B & B. I found Stony Point, a gem in Tyrone. Paul, the owner, was amazing. I have never seen a place any cleaner. The rooms were decorated nicely with furniture appropriate for a 1928 home. And, I really do mean home. There was nothing pretentious about it. There is a lot of history to the home and we loved hearing Paul tell us all about it. It is in a great location. It is very peaceful and relaxing. AND, the coffee is great! Breakfast was delicious. Did I say the coffee was great! We would definitely go back to stay here again. If you are ever in the Altoona or State College area it is a great place to stay.

Stony Point B & B has it all: comfort, history, and a congenial and attentive inkeeper. This handsome and impeccably restored house, built in the 1920s for a Pennsylvania Railroad manager based in Tyrone, is attractively sited on a hillside. That under a stone exterior its bones are recycled wooden freight cars may seem a doubtful claim, but after Paul, the inkeeper, escorts you into the basement to look at the beams you'll be a believer, since they're lettered and numbered with what's clearly railroad lingo: draft gear, capacity, along with elegantly outlined car numbers that speak of another era's aesthetic.

This is not in any way a fussy place, but the antique furnishings perfectly express comfortable living at the time the house was built. There's a porch for warm weather and an attractive sitting room for chilly, rainy days. The bedrooms are spacious and well-appointed, and the bathrooms are stocked with every possible amenity that a forgetful guest might have left at home. Informally served, breakfasts are ample and tasty -- and available whenever they suit your travel or sightseeing plans rather than being presented to guests en mass as a sort of state occasion.

We were attracted initially by the inn's railroad association -- we were headed for Hoseshoe Curve, a short drive away and a world-famous railway landmark -- but found everything about it to our liking. Amtrak serves Tyrone on a convenient schedule, and Paul will pick you up at the depot if you like.

My new wife and I had our wedding at Stony Point Bed and Breakfast in Tyrone, PA on June 22, 2013. It was absolutely wonderful. Paul, the gentleman who runs the B&B was amazing. He was very professional and ready to help at any moment. The property is absolutely stunning and the house is just the same. It all made for a fun and relaxing weekend. My wife and I have already booked for our wedding anniversary next year. Paul made breakfast for everyone the morning after our big day and it was just as amazing as everything else. If you're looking for a quality and relaxing place to stay, well rooted in the local history, this is the place to stay!! 100% Recommended!!!!

Room Tip: The third floor has the most private rooms!!! All rooms though, offer great views of the property.

We spent the night in the overflow house and loved it! We are a large Army family traveling to visit family in NY and Pa. This place fit us all and we were able to spread out, relax and enjoy our stay and each other. The house is in a great location and has everything you could ever need for a stress free stay. Would absolutely stay here again when in Tyrone or surrounding area.
