When we arrived there was a 30 minute wait for outside seating, so we decided to sit inside. Though it was busy, the service and the wait time for our food was surprisingly good. We ordered the special which seemed a bit risky, because how does a restaurant serve meatloaf that you remember Mom making. They nailed it! Sorry Mom. It can get a bit noisy inside but that's a tavern atmosphere, everybody seemed to be having a great time.

It would be great if they took reservations but they don't.
I love the cheese board. It is loaded. It's great if you are hanging at the bar.
When weather permits there are fire pits outside.
They have Happy Hour from 4 to 5.

The Four Dogs Tavern has three things going for it.
They have outstanding local and artisanal foods; it's next to their sister property The Marshallton Inn and it's in the picturesque and restored village of Marshallton, PA. in historic Chester County, minutes outside of the county seat of West Chester.
If you're looking for rustic atmosphere, this is your place as it was once a stable.
Pictures of horses, racing and steeplechasing abound.
The food is an epicures delight.
The only thing that prevented a 5-star rating were the prices.
Without ordering drinks from the bar, our lunch for 2 with tip, came to $100.
We'll be saving this for very special occasions.

My husband and father-in-law stopped for dinner. We were here several years ago and couldn't remember why we hadn't been back. We remembered why. Server was very nice and attentive. Food was OK, but the high prices of the entree's didn't match the quality of the food. If we return, it will be for appetizers only, not for the entrees

Went Thursday night. Quite crowded but didn’t have to wait for a table of five. Waiter was busy but friendly and apologetic. Ordered a dirty martini and it was perfect. Hubs ordered a salad, said it was good. I ordered the mushroom soup and it was delicious. The mushrooms were local and the flavor was full bodied. We shared the chargrilled octopus and it very good. The outside seating was very pretty, the fire pit was nice and the overall atmosphere was very relaxing. Would go back for the flatbreads.
