“Excellent - Great place to spend a day”

Hickory Run State Park

We went to Hickory Run State park and made a day of it. Spent about an hour at the boulder field which was very fun to make your way across. Saw a few deer while driving through from one spot to another.

We went to the beach area which had picnic tables and we at the lunch that we brought. The kids enjoyed the beach for a couple hours as well. We then made our way to the waterfall hike which the kids didn't enjoy as much but the adults did. All in all it was an entire day of spending only gas money and the money we paid for the lunches we packed.

We camped one weekend at the park...made our reservations too late in the week and had to stay in the section with only pit toilets. They were in fairly good shape, but we had to drive to the newer section to take showers. Our campsite bordered a very large open field which was good for the amateur astronomer next to us who set up his telescope all weekend. Two pick up baseball games also in the field.
The boulder field made for an interesting afternoon activity and of course there were lovely trails to walk on. However, did it once, most likely won't go back.

Park with not alot of services. The boulder field is amazing but off of a 6 miles dirt road loop with very little parking. No rangers anyplace. Roads that are paved are in bad shape.

We visited Hickory Run yesterday for the first time and we loved it. The park was very clean and we saw park rangers throughout the day, which shows the park is well cared for. The trails are absolutely beautiful, the beach area very nice and clean. I did not see any geese droppings by the water, as I've seen on other area lakes. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. We are looking forward to returning, and we recommend this beautiful park to anyone who enjoys nature at its best.
