We were in Wilkes-Barre visiting relatives and stayed at the beautiful Frederick Stegmaier Mansion. It is the original home of the founder of the Stegmaier Brewery. The current owner, Joe Mateo, bought the building which had been converted to apartments and restored this Victorian mansion back to its original glory. Every square inch seems to have been restored and Joe's attention to detail really shows. The floors, ceilings, wood trim, hardware, furnishings, oil paintings, light fixtures, stained glass- everything is so gorgeous, elaborate and Victorian in style. We stayed in the Amelia's suite which was a two room suite- the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in- there was a kithenette which was very convenient (wine glasses, fridge, microwave, toaster etc). Joe kept the kitchenette stocked on a daily basis with soda, water, juice, cookies, butter, breakfast breads, fruit, yogurt etc. (All of this was complimentary). The B&B has a driveway for your use and is walking distance to the restaurants in town. The 2 parlors on the main floor and the garden out back are for your use as well. Joe knows you by name when he sees you which is nice. I have travelled extensively and can say this was one of the most unique, interesting and pleasant places that I have ever stayed. On day 4 I was still noticing interesting things about the room. I highly recommend staying at the Frederick Stegmaier Mansion if you are in the Wilkes-Barre area.
