“This is where to go if you want to see a show!”
Reviewed 27 December 2013

I've been seeing great performances here for decades! First one for me was KIX in the early '80s. More recently: Frampton, Robert Cray/Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Doobie Brothers, and Asia. Thank goodness little old York can lay claim to a venue that gets top entertainers in an intimate setting. There is parking in nearby lots, garages, and on the street if you get lucky. People often get dropped off and picked up out front afterward, which is also an option.

Don't be afraid of "being downtown at night", because you have safety in numbers if you come and go with the flow of all those other people. I usually see the police cruising around most nights anyway.

If there was a politeness award, the volunteers here would win it, hands down. A lot of retirees staff the Strand, and clearly enjoy their work.

Only two things need improvement: Mixing the sound so that it's not overdriven and muddy sometimes, and security. Every now and then you have a guest who unfortunately needs to be thrown out, and they hesitate to do this. Maybe a few linebackers to serve as security would do the trick? As for the sound, have some volunteers around the venue report back to the sound crew ASAP if something needs adjusted.

You can pick your seats out online, and if you ever need to cancel your reservations, you can do so without a fee or a fuss.

The Strand is a beautiful, historical gem of a venue that I hope will be preserved for generations to come. If you have the means, please consider becoming a supporting member!

“Acoustic Bryan Adams”
Reviewed 12 December 2013

When we saw tickets for Bryan Adams we had to come here, even though it was a weeknight and a torture to drive (crawl) through miles of backups on 695 - a nasty mess. Once out of Maryland, getting to the venue is easy and quick. We barely found parking and shuffled across many iced over streets - no salt put down at all - and got inside the warm, well lit venue with many smiling faces to take tickets and drink orders. Our seats were pretty good and the show wasn't sold out. Mr. Adams took the stage about 15 minutes late which gave us a nice chance to relax and warm up a bit. The seats are individual and plush, just right for sinking into, although there is not a huge amount of leg room as another reviewed pointed out. The show was "unplugged," just himself, his guitar and some piano accompaniment on certain songs. They still sounded good! It was kind of refreshing not to have a full, loud band that night and his voice was true. Except for the woman shrieking "Whooo" behind us (after the fifth time we asked to be moved and got even better seats), This tour is called "Bare Bones" and Bryan was a delight; well worth driving 80 miles in horrible rush hour traffic to see.

“Excellent concert venue”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

We recently saw Pat Benatar at the Strand, though we were somewhat disappointed with her performance, the venue is great! They consistently have very good shows, concerts there with a nice range of genres and styles. Seat views are excellent, but slightly cramped for a 6' 4" person.
