Recently renamed after the Appell family who built and later renovated the Strand-Capitol. "Originally built in 1925 as a glittering example of Italian Renaissance architecture" from their "Our History" found in brochures received when attending performances. It is dingy and dull, obviously having seen better days. It is nostalgic for the aging population in the area who have grown up with the Center. They do have a variety of symphonies, theater, and well known entertainers. I recently attended a show "Ben Folds and a piano" and had no problem forgetting my surroundings and totally enjoying the show as did the packed house. With a standing ovation at the end and one last song, I was completely touched and mesmerized by the music and it appeared that everyone there had the same feeling. So despite cramped seating and the dingy dull signs of aging, the Center continues to get talent and shows to perform that you feel you are some place else. Perhaps in the Center back in the roaring 1920's when it was newly built. The staff is also aging but extremely helpful. I will also happily attend other shows that are of interest to me.

The shows at the strand capital can be graded a B the seating is a big D. Once the remodeling was complete all leg room and elbow room was eliminated. Tried to put too many seats to seat more people but this resulted in less people wanted to be tortured

No question that I will go back for more shows. The seat are somewhat uncomfortable and it is not the best sound, but I have never had a bad view of the stage.

I attended a concert at the Strand Capital. That theatre is clean, the staff very helpful and the cost of the tickets are reasonable. Something I just learned is the ushers are all volunteers.
