“On a business trip in area - Not a great experience”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

I was in the area working with a local company and someone suggested we go here for a nice dinner. The restaurant was kind of difficult to locate - in the middle of some neighborhoods. GPS got us there, the parking lot was very adequate and things were looking up. We had to wait for a few minutes in the lobby while someone was located who could seat us. The restaurant is very dated and is in need of a facelift. We were seated and soon met our waiter (all male wait staff), very young but seemed competent. The menu is very broad based and would have something to suit anyone's taste. The prices were very much in-line with other restaurants located in the area. There were a bunch of families in the dining area so this place must be a local standard. Our first problem was that the waiter did not use a pad to write down the order. When the food came - it was incorrect. The waiter never came back to check on us until he brought the bill. I had left-overs from my meal and asked for it to be wrapped up to go. The waiter cleared the table and never returned. We later found him and he could not locate the left-over steak w/ sides. He did offer to have it remade but that was not the point. The food was extremely tasty - the kitchen has their act together - they know how to cook. We left there with a feeling that the place needs a general overhaul - interior, wait staff & management (leave the kitchen alone). I hope that we just got a green waiter, a senior waiter should have shadowed him. I am not in a big hurry to go back there but will give it a second chance next time we are in the area.

“A Rhode Island Institution”
Reviewed 15 January 2014

I have been coming here for over sixty years and it is one of my favorite restaurants. The price is reasonable and the offerings are immense. Try the shrimp cocktail huge shrimp always fresh and crisp. Lobster bake in butter sauce is another great dish. Keep up the good work.

“Was never great, but now it is worse”
Reviewed 6 December 2013

This place is old and dated food here was never great, but it is so much worse now. Most of our food (3 couples) was dry and lacking any real flavor. The steak had a fish taste to it and was about the worst steak we have ever had! Pasta was way over cooked it appeared like it was recooked is was soft mush. The Veal was actually pretty good but the sauce was very salty. The seafood was fair at best but the potato was very dry. The wait staff service can be up and down it was ok this visit. The valet guys are just rude. This was my LAST visit here to many other places to spend my $$ at. Twin oaks stays in business NOT because of the food or management but because it has a reputation that has long passed.

“Much better lately.”
Reviewed 30 November 2013 via mobile

While this is an 80 year old RI institution, a few years ago it had gone downhill. This latest visit though was back to par, with all our meals being unqualified excellent and reasonably priced. This is a great place to take a family for homestyle Italian without breaking the bank.
