“If we lived nearby, we would eat here often...and bring friends!”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

In Cranston Rhode Island...after having picked Lilly’s sister up at the TF Green airport...just as planned and right on time...we stumble upon a cozy little Italian bistro in Cranston RI...who knew...”L’Osteria”...Family owned...so much so that when we pull up...the owner, his wife and four kids, the owner’s brother, wife and kids have taken possession of the two sets of tables on the restaurant’s porch front....they are eating pasta and bread and drinking wine and eating dessert pastries and drinking espresso throughout the evening...welcoming guests and urging potential customer to come join them. We accept the invitation and are glad of it...Parking is a bit of a challenge but successfully resolved. The interior of the restaurant is “Italian Bistro” decor. The ceiling painted tin. The menu Southern Italian. The wine list passable. The bread hard crust, soft interior, garlic butter. The noise level is certainly and unfortunately energetic. But the service is good in a casually enthusiastic way. And the food is a near perfect comforter after having been on the road for 12 hours with hours more to go before we were done. Excellent mix of pasta done right with spices and herbs: for me fettucini and a little red sauce, black olives and anchovies...Puttanesca...for my wife - mushroom Tagliatelle in a light cream sauce and for her sister a seafood pasta. Espresso and lemon tarte for dessert. If we lived nearby, I think that we would eat here often...and invite our friends and family to join us.

“Poor attitude”
Reviewed 25 May 2013

We were greeted with a very passive welcome and when we were fully acknowledged we informed the waiter that we were one person short of our planned reservation. He immediately had a poor attitude and told us we should have called and informed them. It was a sudden issue and none of his damn business. Instead of showing a little compassion, he berated us. The food was fair at best.

“Just o.k.”
Reviewed 20 April 2013 via mobile

Nice quaint little place. Food is just o.k. and prices are on the high side. Service was very good but for the prices there are a lot of other places you could go to first.

“save your time and money”
Reviewed 3 February 2013

Went with the wife 2/2/2013. The risotto special was pasty and a bland. Not worth the $18.95, and the lobster ravioli special($23.95) was not homemade. It tasted like the Venda variety from Federal Hill. I wouldn't be surprised if that is where it was from. Not bad, but rather pedestrian. The cheesecake dessert was downright inedible. Canned strawberry topping. Service was slow and poor. Oh, and it was very chilly inside the restaurant itself. Bring a sweater or keep your coat on I would not return

“Food is good, very small”
Reviewed 18 November 2012

This was the first time in L'osteria. I heard a lot about it being loud. the reasoning being that it is EXTREMELY small place and people talking seems to make it loud. The food was pretty good, I had the chicken risorto which was not the best I have had but still good. Others in my party had mixed reviews. The food getting to us was a little bit slow but the wait staff did help each other out and keep us with bread and drinks(which to me seems that the slow service makes you fill up on liquor and bread.) It is a bit pricey. Worth it?? not to me.
