I was in Jamestown for my college roommate's wedding. The Lionel Champlin Guest House was absolutely perfect. The owners were so friendly and helpful. I felt like I was staying with family. The house is beautiful. Great value! The room was perfectly nice. Hot showers, soft towels, and cozy sheets. And maybe a friendly ghost or two. :)

I have greatly enjoyed staying at the Lionel Champlin Guest House. Not only is Jamestown a favorite destination of mine, but the house has a unique New England charm and Lisa and Rusty are exemplary hosts. ¬

I'd be at a loss to think of someone who could cook up a more delicious breakfast. To add to the delight, the menu appears never to repeat itself.

The location is excellent. Just two short blocks from the main tourist street, full of excellent shops and restaurants, it is still far enough away to be in a quiet setting, secluded in the shade of towering trees. It is likewise not right on the shore, but on a hill, which gave me a breathtaking view of the bay from my room. It is sheltered from the coastal traffic and tourists, but it is only a couple of minutes walk away.

Learning about the history of the house adds to its charm. It was build around 1889 by Lionel Champlin at around the age he married in his mid-twenties.

I like that the dining room, living room and lobby is like a museum, although this in no way impacts its coziness. The walls and tabletops are home to interesting and esthetic items from the region and beyond. There's also a sunroom, which is a great place to start the day. It has a wide-screen TV, but I don't often see it used.

The guesthouse attracts interesting guests as well. On one memorable day I met two couples when I came down for breakfast, one from France and one from Germany. That started an interesting discussion that lasted the rest of the morning.

Lisa and Rusty's skill as innkeepers is exceptional, as seen in their attention to detail, in the decor, in prompt service, in excellent breakfasts and in their ever-friendly demeanor. It is obvious to me that theirs is a labor of love.

This is the way to see Jamestown (and nearby Newport, for that matter). The guest house is conveniently located in the village, a short walk from a number of charming restaurants. It has ample parking and, beyond very pleasant accommodations, has comfortable and inviting common areas. Our host made us feel quite welcomed. It was clear she really cared about whether we enjoyed our stay.

We decided in January 2013 that we would attend the Newport Jazz Festival for the first time. Once we investigated accommodations we learned very quickly how expensive Newport was, but in our research we discovered that Jamestown was linked to Newport by ferry and bridge. Knowing if we left the booking of accommodations too late, we might not find anything. We came upon the Lionel Champlin Guest House which was just what we were looking for. Although we were booking from Canada, they took our reservation and paid in full with cash upon our arrival, as they do not accept credit cards.

Located within a 5 minute walk to the ferry dock and restaurants made it easy to get around. Once we parked our car in their spacious lot, we didn't move it until our departure. The room is spacious with a private bath. Each morning we brought our coffee to our room and enjoyed waking up in privacy in the sitting area in our room. We are not big breakfast eaters so the pastries, fruit and yogurt were perfect for us. Each evening we enjoyed sitting on the porch with a nightcap.

We really enjoyed our first trip to this area of the US, and if we ever get down there again, we will certainly book with Rusty and Lisa!

...missing the ocean every day.

My wife and I stayed here for one night on 8/29. We stayed in the Captains room, which was terrific. It has a nice sitting area with a view out to the harbor and a very nice private modern bathroom. The owners Rusty and Lisa were easy to deal with and offered great suggestions for places to eat and bike rides to take. It is an easy walk to the waterfront and the downtown area. Jamestown, in general, offers a low key option to Newport and the Champlin House is very much along the same lines. They offer pastries and coffee in the morning although we went out to eat.

We took the ferry over to Newport for dinner which also was great. No hassles from traffic or parking issues and just $10 round trip after 4pm.

While there arent many options for places to stay in Jamestown, the Lionel Champlin House was the perfect choice for us. It also offered a more reasonbly priced alternative than staying in a similar type Inn/B&B in Newport and the ferry made access to Newport easy and stress free.

I highly recommend the Champlin House and would certainly stay there again.

We had a wonderful experience here. Beautiful rooms. Rusty (the owner) is warm and kind. Situated right near the Jamestown Ferry means easy access to anywhere you'd like to visit during your stay. Coffee and homemade pastries in the morning were an added bonus. We will definitely be staying here again in the future.

We had a wedding in Newport this past weekend (June 1st) and after procrastinating on booking a room I decided to go the B&B route to save money. I found the Lionel Champlin Guest House through GoNewport.com and filled out a room request on their website, and they contacted me right away. Rooms are very reasonable compared to Newport hotels. We enjoyed staying here so much more than a standard hotel. The house is warm and welcoming, with plenty of places to sit and read or enjoy the weather. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable, without all those dust collecting tchotckes you find at some B&Bs. While they don't serve a full breakfast they had coffee, tea and homemade pastries every morning. The owners are very nice and helpful with recommendations.

Better still is the location. It's in the middle of historic Jamestown and you can walk to the main street (Narragansett Ave) where there are restaurants, coffee shops and a few stores. There is also a beach and a lighthouse/state park on the island. It's right over the bridge from Newport - an easy 10 minute drive to Thames St. downtown. One night we even took the ferry over, which you can walk to, and it drops you off in a very convenient spot by the Marriott and Newport Harbor Hotel. The only issue we encountered in not driving, and this is true no matter where you're staying, is it was very hard to get a cab home after a Saturday night out. I would recommend leaving before the bars close at 1am or you'll be waiting on the street for quite a while, and the cab companies won't answer the phone.

I would love to stay here again and plan to do so when visiting Newport in the future.
