We just returned from a long weekend at the Breezeway Resort. We used it as a jumping off point to visit Mystic and the surrounding area. We stayed in cottage 132, which was clean, private, and great for a family. The beds were not great, particularly the sofa bed, which needs to be replaced. The grounds were well maintained and the children loved the pool. The staff were all helpful and friendly. We really appreciated the steady supply of beach towels, free parking at the beach, and the simple, but very good breakfast. Breezeway Resort is a great choice when visiting Westerly.

Room Tip: Cottage 132 is quiet and private with its own parking (on the grass in front of the house).

Thanks for your review and we're glad you we're able to enjoy our area. Within 15 miles or so, there really is so much to see and do other than just beaches. I'm sorry you found the beds not to your liking. We selected Simmons Beautyrest "Westbury" mattresses for all of our beds and have had excellent feedback until now. I'll certainly inspect the bedding in the cottage today and see how to solve this issue. I'm very pleased the remainder of your stay with us was satisfying and we hope to serve you and your family again next year perhaps.

Have a great summer,

John

We stayed three days in mid-July and rented a pool-side King studio suite. It was a little smaller room than we expected from the photos, but was ok for the four of us and we enjoyed the fridge and sink and modern/updated furnishings. The bathroom is very small, but we made it work. We were not in the room much anyway--so much to do (walking around the area, bike-riding (they offer bikes), swimming in ocean and pool, fish fries, restaurants, etc.). The motel is updated and clean and pride of ownership evident--one of the nicest "beach motels" we have stayed at. The motel is 3/10 of a mile from the actual beach, but they offer free parking right at the beach with private beach area and lifeguard (which was essential since there were 4 rescues due to riptide the weekend we were there). Just in case you aren't familiar with Westerly/Misquamicut in general--there are a lot of "beef-cakey" types, singles and couples, lots of smokers, and large local bar scene--this is NOT an area like the Outer Banks in NC which is mostly families and very quiet. But, the Breezeway IS very family friendly and clean and enjoyable to stay at with kids and the private beach-front was very family-friendly and enjoyable. One thing we really enjoyed was the very warm pool--it was at least 85 degrees and so comfortable after a chilly day spent jumping in the waves in the 70 degree water at the ocean. The continental breakfast is satisfying (bagels, muffins, hard-boiled egg, yogurt and fruit). They take steps to initiate quite hours (pool closes at 8) and have literature stressing how if you are noisy or disruptive they will evict you. We appreciated this very much and I have to say we didn't hear a single noise (this was one of the quietest motels we have ever stayed at). There were only two negatives--one was that the free wifi only worked if you went close to the lobby--we couldn't get access in our room (our room was only about 20 feet from the lobby so that was a mystery)--and two, it was a bit more expensive than we expected once we saw it--our overall feeling was that the room should have been about $150-200 total compared to other places we have stayed in the past (as it was, we paid $380 per night for one King bed and one double-sized pull out sofa but I guess for the location, you just need to pay...) I would recommend this motel and plan to return again! Overall, well-done Breezeway!

Thanks very much to you and your family for staying with us and for this review. We do take pride in our business and it is really a labor of love for my family and I. I have a call into our vendor to check on the wifi 'dead zone" you mentioned. Regarding the bathroom size. we offer 6 different studio suites. We offer 4 other studios located in our corkscrew fountain courtyard which have larger bathrooms. Maybe we can book you into one of those next time to give you a bit more space.

Have a great summer,

John

We enjoyed our stay immensely in the 2 bedroom suite over 4th of July weekend. Everything was so clean and the grounds well maintained. We really enjoyed the large deck with room to spread out. The staff were very kind and accommodating. The private beach was a plus on a busy holiday weekend. We are already planning a return visit next the next 4th. This is a perfect place for a family beach getaway!

Stayed in the Maria's Suites in the King suite #402. Room was good for 2 people, would be very crowded with 4. At $375/night plus tax we expected a bit more. The bathroom was small, the shower stall tiny (think cruiseship), and no space for toiletries. No wi-fi. The wet bar was extremely small with a dorm room type refrigerator -- no real freezer. The A/C seemed newer and worked well. One drawback to this room was In order for the guests in the room adjacent, #401, they had to walk past our room on the very narrow walkway which doubles as the balcony. The comings and goings of the guests made it inconvenient to keep the blinds open or sit outside. Housekeeping was very good. Location across the street from the beach was excellent. That being said, we did not venture up to the regular property for any of their amenities. Going to the beach from the road, there is an attendant to check your wristband. However there is no signage on the actual beach (other hotels have signs that say Hotel Guests Only) and we watched many non-guests walk right in and park themselves onto the so-called private beach making it very crowded on a lovely day. Bathrooms at the beach were clean, but anyone could use them if you waited for someone to come out. The one attendant was nowhere around the few times we used the facilities and again we watched non-guests using them. Staff at check in were pleasant and helpful. All in all a good stay, but definitely not worth the hefty pricetag.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for your review. Your comments are definitely noted and we will work to make improvements where possible. The 5 Maria's Suites we offer (which are at a different address than the main resort) we're renovated in the winter of 2012. The suites are all unique and are different in shape and size. One drawback of the units on the 2nd floor is that while there are chairs to sit on in front of the unit, they are not private balconies. In your case, guests walking to suite 401 must pass 402. If you do decide to return, our penthouse suite on the 3rd floor offers both a private balcony and patio. We offer free wi-fi on the entire main resort but unfortunately we do not offer this service at Maria's Suites at this time.

Thanks again for the feedback and staying with us.

PS We are planning on building a brand new 21 room boutique hotel with 4 residences and a new Maria's Seaside Cafe where Maria's Suites are located. Follow us on our website or facebook for updates.

This was by far one of the nicest places I have stayed at. I usually pay a fortune for lodging but after this experience, I am more inclined to stay at a family-owned place. The staff was outstanding. The facilities were comfortable and spotless. The amenities were many and you are not charged extra for every little thing. The housekeeper, Anna, is a jewel! Everyone is so friendly and all of the staff takes pride in their work. It was a welcome breath of fresh air to stay at this wonderful resort. We will be back!

We have stayed here the past 3 years. We have two children and they love the heated pool. My wife loves the beach and the shopping at Watch Hill which is right next door. We all love the continental breakfast w/ toast, English muffins, bagels, blue berry and corn muffins, fresh fruit, cereals, excellent coffee and juices. The staff is so friendly and considerate. You can really tell that they love their jobs and take pride in it. The grounds are well manicured and the buildings are beautifully maintained. Their staff does not stop all day and they always have a pleasant demeanor. The rooms are comfortable and recently renovated so the beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are modern and clean. Well worth the price! We are making Breezeway Resort a tradition in our family.

Room Tip: Second floor is always preferred.

We go back to the little known gem every year for my twins birthday. The rooms are spacious, clean and the staff is just downright awesome. Love the pool after a day at their clean beach. Totally recommended! Now we just need Maria's to re open.

PS. There is no start date as of yet, but we are planning on building a new hotel, residences and a brand new Maria's Seaside Cafe. The hotel will be called The Cabanas and Maria's will be at its center overlooking the ocean and a swimming pool.
