The only flip side- after Nancy's scrumptious heart-healthy breakfast, pretty much anything else you have after will fall short in comparison. The garden is an amazing place to while away the warm afternoons. There is an amazing host of birds one can catch a glimpse of in the garden, and the soothing trickle of water by the Koi pond is perfect for some quiet time. A short walk through the woods in the back leads to a less-trodden access to the sea. Please stay here, if you can- you will cherish the famed New England B and B experience.

My husband and I just spent 2 nights at the Richards B&B and found Nancy & Richard to be warm and welcoming. We stayed in the Blue Room which was large and very clean, as was the rest of the house. There is an attached large bathroom with built in drawers and mirrors and plenty of hooks for your towels and robes, as well as a dresser and armoire with hangers for your use in the bedroom. The attached bathroom had a shower stall and a tub, and the water pressure was excellent. There's a window air conditioner and you may also open the windows which I personally love for sleeping. We could have used brighter reading lights by the bed, and my husband had to pull a small table over to his side to use for his glasses and book, and to have enough light to read.

There is a lovely, large back yard with a path to a small koi pond and seating. But I would have liked a comfortable seat closer to the house, in the open breeze, to sit and read in the evening....it was a little uncomfortable sitting back there alone.

Breakfast is served at 8:45 AM at the dining room table; Nancy made wonderful muffins and egg-zucchini frittata one morning, muffins, pancakes and bacon the next, with fresh fruit salad each day... and delicious coffee.

If you are a TV addict, you should know that there are no TVs in the house.

Nancy and Steve are wonderful hosts in this very lovely classic New England home. We wanted to stay in Newport when booking this trip, but the prices there were stratospheric! We somehow, and luckily, stumbled upon this fantastic B&B and were SO happy we did so. Thank GOD for Trip Advisor! Narragansett is a lovely little town, and only 20 or so minutes from Newport across the bay. Actually, we loved that our "home away from home" was in a secluded, quite locale, far away from busy Newport. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable (we chose the King bed), and breakfast was scrumptious! Very nice people who work hard at making you comfortable. So thanks Nancy and Steve for a lovely time in Rhode Island! And thanks for the great tips on things to do places to eat. Oh, and we HIGHLY recommend "Talulah's on Thames" in Newport. They are outrageously fantastic, just note that it's a very small place.

My fiancee and I stayed at Richards B&B for 4 nights, 3 of which were in a smaller room with a separate bathroom and the last night in a larger room with an attached bathroom. Although I have been to a good deal of B&Bs, my fiancee has not and was a bit nervous about the atmosphere. Fortunately we both felt right at home. The rooms were quaint and well maintained and the grounds were beautiful: gardens, small fountain, hammock for two, small Koi pond, and a narrow walking trail that lead from the property down to a beautiful rock wonderland overlooking the ocean (wine and sunset recommended). Breakfast was lovely without miss: great coffee and delightful food and muffins everyday. They struck the right balance of facilitating conversation, particularly over breakfast, and providing space (I have been to B&Bs with overbearing hosts). Steven has good stories and a sarcastic sense of humor and Nancy chimes in with sharp jokes; they play off each other well.

The only negative thing I have to report is their recommendation for a B&B in Newport, Ivy Lodge, was a bit disappointing.

Also, Narragansett is beautiful.

Highly Recommended.

We had just checked out and decided to take the path from their place to the ocean where you can sit on these wonderful rocks and watch the ocean. It was a cloudy day and as we climbed out on the rocks, we started to hear thunder in the distance. It sounded like to was to the North, so we enjoyed wtaching the edge of the dark clouds push past us and out over the ocean. It was a wonderful site. However, before we knew it, it was raining, thundering and lightening. Finally realizing this was not the place to be in a thunder storm, we climbed back and head back to the path, drenched and a bit concerned about more lightening as we headed toward the path through the trees. We looked up, and there was Steven waiting for us in his van. He was a very welcome sight, even if he did (correctly) tell us we were a bit unwise to have waited so long to come back in. In addition to their beautiful house, the great homey breakfast and loads of great advice on where to go and how to get there, taking the time to look for wayward guests puts the Richards in a class by themselves. Thank you so much!!!

The Richards Bed & Breakfast is a beautiful granite castle-like home built in the 1800's. It has lovely gardens & is a short drive to the Narragansett beaches & restaurants. Breakfast was wonderful each morning & the hosts very friendly & informative about the area. Our room was furnished with antiques & lovely linens and had a private bath. We look forward to returning.

When you decide on a b&b based on what you see on a website, there is a certain amount of risk involved. That said from the minute we pulled into The Richards driveway, we were impressed. If you enjoy a park like setting, a home with character, a thoroughly relaxing atmosphere and hosts who make you feel welcome ...... The Richards is for you. Our room was exceptionally clean. The grounds were very well maintained and even included a pathway to the rocky coast. Our breakfast was excellent ...... both days. Talk about home made. We were impressed and considering my wife is a pastry chef ....... that says something. The only disappointing part of our trip was the fact we only could stay two days. We will be back ..... for sure.
