“A Great Place to Relax”
Reviewed 17 October 2007

Enjoyed a 4-day stay at the Anchor Motel during the first week in September, 2007, which I found to be exceptionally clean and cozy. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The motel is located just across the street form Scarborough Beach, which was outstanding! A 5 minute drive from downtown Narragansett and conveniently located near some great restaurants, I found this a great place to relax, whether reading a book on the small deck or strolling the beach. Looking forward to my next trip!

I am giving this hotel only 3 stars because compared to others I have
stayed at, it is truly Very Basic. Just the bare minimum of towels and they are paper thin and rough to the touch. The rooms are small and face toward the parking lot so when cars drive in, their headlights blare into your room. However, despite these drawbacks, I found my overall stay to be quite pleasant.

It is mere steps from Scarborough Beach which is one of the best beaches I've ever been to. The motel is fairly quiet at night. The owner is quite nice and the room was clean. All of the other guests were very friendly and one night we even got serenaded by a small trio of musicians in the room next door who were playing acoustic versions of older (90's) rock hits. Very pleasant.

Also, we were surprised to find a small refrigerator in our room. We
had to plug it in (the owner obviously keeps it unplugged to save on electricity) but so what. For such a basic motel, one wouldn't expect to find a refrigerator in the room.

There is also a small continental breakfast offered in the office area which we did not take advantage of.

Overall, we (my husband, myself and small son) enjoyed our stay at the Anchor Motel. We will definitely stay again but will request Rooms 1 - 5 which face toward the ocean. We were facing both streets (the hotel is located at a crossroad) and as a result, we got more headlight traffic than Rooms 1 - 5 get.

  • Liked — Great access to Scarborough Beach.
  • Disliked — Parking lot. Headlights shown in room quite frequently.

I stayed here with 3 of my family members Sept 16th thru Sept 21rst . we enjoyed it so much ! the owner Gene is a sweetheart of a man he kept the room so clean !! when we came back from a day of fun we opened the door and the room smelled so good and clean .. Gene keeps busy all the time , but never to busy to talk and be helpful .. we could see the ocean from our bed and hear the waves crashing .. and we took long walks on the beach during the day we will most certainly be back , and tell others all about this wonderful Quaint Motel ...

Clean, comfortable and affordable. You have all the ammenities you need and that's it. Although we didn't have cable or internet access we agreed that the room rate was worth it and that the point was to get out and about and away from the tv and computer.

We loved the view and enjoyed our own little porch. The host and hostess are very accomodating and very friendly. You are right across the street from the beach and it is a great base location for trips around South County and to Newport. We can't wait to come back to this place next summer. Thank you so much!

This is the cleanest beach motel you'll ever find. It is a wonderful place to stay for seeing the sites in Rhode Island, for walking the beach, or for just sitting around and reading books. I highly recommend this motel.

We stayed at the Anchor Motel June 13th-14th and had a great time. It was quite cold and gray out, so the motel was pretty empty (as was the beach), but we found the Anchor Motel to be a great accommodation. It was right across the street from the beach, the rooms were immaculate and had a small fridge in them, the owner was very nice and offered suggestions for dinner and breakfast, the prices were reasonable (just a few days before peak season), and we really couldn't ask for more. Except maybe fluffier/more pillows. Our king size bed came with 3 pillows which were somewhat flat. If you like fluffy pillows like I do, bring your own or ask for extra before the office closes. Other than that, I can't complain about a thing. I would highly recommend the Anchor Motel, and we will definitely be returning!
