We love this motel! I just booked our 2014 stay which will be our third visit. It is simple, comfortable and very clean. Point Judith Lighthouse, Galilee, Narragansett Pier & Newport are a short drive away. Scarborough Beach is a gem. The sand is clean, people are nice and the waves are perfect for body surfing and boogie boarding. The beach is literally steps away; it is almost like having a beach house on the ocean without the expense! You can't go wrong with this brilliant combination. I can't wait for my next evening walk in the surf.

I'm giving this motel four stars on the basis that what I wanted was to spend all day at the beach. If that's what you're looking for too, this is the perfect spot. It's directly across the street from the Scarborough State Beach. Not only does the motel offer free parking, they encourage you to park there before and after check in. So even if you're only staying one night, you can enjoy two full days at the beach. This is not a fancy place - the decor is dated, there aren't any state of the art updates, overall it's a little shabby. However, it was very clean, the room was quite roomy, it had a nice flat screen tv, and the service was very good. The cost was much less than nearby places. Speaking of nearby places, Narragansett had a few nice lunch and dinner places and a cute coffee shop nearby. Newport is only 20 minutes away, so there's lots to do there too.

We recently took a trip to Narragansett to celebrate our anniversary and stayed 5 nights at the Anchor Motel. We choose it based on the reviews on this website and we weren't disappointed. The location is perfect. You are right across the street from the beach. We had beautiful weather the whole time and since it was off season there were no crowds. My husband got up early every morning and went surf fishing. I went with him to see the sunrise over the water. We paid extra for a "premium" room (#14) that has a view of the water but honestly all you have to do is step outside on your balcony and every room has a view of the ocean! The rooms were neat and clean. The staff friendly and helpful. We had a fridge in our room which was great too. The office had coffee/donuts in the morning. If you want plush luxury this is not for you. If you want great rates/clean neat rooms and a perfect location then I highly recommend. We had a wonderful time in Narragansett and will definitely choose the Anchor Motel again if we go back!

Room Tip: All the rooms have an "ocean view" when you step outside on your balcony.

We, a family of three, decided to stay at The Anchor based on reviews from this website as well as it's relative location to Newport. The motel was absolutely spotless and clean. The Anchor suited our needs well as we usually don't spend a lot of time in the hotels when we travel. Is The Anchor a 5 star posh resort ? No and it doesn't pretend to be. But is is a great, clean, friendly place to stay right on the beach and it won't break the bank either. If you want to stretch out a bit then try their Bed & Breakfast Rooms that they how have available. If you're looking for an inexpensive, clean place to stay for a few days then you can't go wrong with The Anchor

My husband & I decided to spend a few days in beautiful Narragansett & stumbled upon the Anchor motel (well stumbled upon it online!) All the reviews we read were very positive.and ours is too. We did enjoy our stay very much. We had the King bed- room in the corner next to the office, so we didn't have a great porch to sit on like the others but we weren't there much anyway! (king bed was very comfy) Room was small but clean & QUIET! wow very quiet for a place right on the corner of the road, we were surprised. Loved that we were steps from the beach! everyone was very friendly, even the other patrons. We would definitely come back and stay here again...in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: The room with the king bed is right next to the lobby so the porch is very tiny & not conducive...

A friendly family run business. Rooms are simple & clean. All have tiny porches to sit and read or relax on. Parking is easy, the beach is across the street. No restaurants or shops in an easy walk, but plenty in a 5 minute drive. The only thing that needs improving here is the plainness of the rooms - they could use a bit more cheer - they're a bit stark for my taste, I think more paintings or color in the rooms would make it more vacation like.

Great place to stay to walk to the beach. As others have written, the motel is run by a friendly family who keep it spotless. I appreciated having a fridge with a mini freezer. The beds were really comfortable. The tiny porch is nice to sit on any time of the day with a view of the ocean. This is our second visit and I would definitely stay here again. It is nothing fancy, but it is comfortable and close to the beach. The sunrises are gorgeous across the beach. Donuts and coffee are provided in the office in the mornings. Make the trip to Matunuck Oyster Bar in South Kingston if you like super fresh seafood. It is a 20 minute drive, 10 miles away - well worth it.
