We had an amazing day! The beach was clean and peaceful and not crowded. The water was crystal clear and refreshing. I also feel there was a nice crowd of people here... everyone was very considerate and respectful of the other beach goers. At more popular public beaches I find there are loud and obnoxious people that don't really have good beach etiquette. This beach is a bit out of the way and I find that you'll usually find true beach lovers at these types of off the beat and path type of places. This is now one of my favorite beaches in New England.

Once you get to the beach you can relax. Getting there is another story. The parking is limited (2 lots where the parking fee fluctuates; $20, $25,$30 or 2 hr. street parking), If you want to drop off people and then park you need to be aware of the CSO (Not friendly). The days of common courtesy and a helping hand are long gone from Watch Hill. Once you are at the beach you can enjoy the water and the waves and forget about the trek to the beach

Some responders are confusing East Beach Watch Hill with East Beach Charlestown. Both are very nice.

East Beach Watch Hill is owned by the abutting property owners but they very graciously allow the public to use it.

-Nice waves that were perfect for boogie boarding or body surfing.
-Shallow entry so people could spread out a bit in the water.
-Lots of people, particularly near the entrance, but if you were willing to walk a few hundred yards you could have as much space around you as you want.
-Its FREE!

I love this beach because it is free and only a few hundred yards from downtown Watch Hill so you can easily walk back and forth for lunch or whatever. I am surprised at the several reviewers saying this beach is in another town or somehow far away from Watch Hill. They must be thinking of someplace else, because it is right there. Just walk up along the road, up the hill past the carousel and $8 beach, past the lighthouse access road, there is a little dirt footpath down to East Beach. Follow the foot traffic carrying towels and boogie boards.

Wanted to clarify the location, since as one reviewer stated, East Beach is not the same as Watch Hill. There are plenty of clean bathrooms at Watch Hill right off the sand.

The sand is wonderful. Which it had better be for the price they charge you to walk on it!! Beach is small, so it can get crowded quickly, and you had better get there early because there are only 2 lots nearby, as far as I know, and they fill up quickly. We made the mistake of not getting there until 11am, and found parking on the street, but that is only good for 2 hours, and they you'd better not park anywhere on the street after that, because I've been told you will get ticketed, and it will cost you a lot. We would have been okay with just staying at the beach for two hours, and then spending the rest of the time shopping and dining at the wonderful establishments on Bay Street, but there weren't even any parking spots in the shopping parking area, so we took our money elsewhere. Oh well.
