My wife and I go way back before the new building etc. We love the new Ocean house, and we stopped by for a glass of wine and their world's best Truffle french fries. We had left our car with the valet as we have in the past, which was always free, and no tipping required. Now I was charged $3 to park. Very sad to see, they show so much class in so many ways, then they pull this cheap stunt. Oh, to add to this, the hotel and restaurant had very few guests at the time we were there.

I apologize that you were disappointed in our new valet charges. While we have worked very hard to keep the charges much lower than you’d find elsewhere, the new fees are necessary in order to still be able to offer our valet service to non-hotel guests, as the increasing number of non-hotel guests that we welcome to the hotel everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner requires us to maintain a larger valet team.

Ocean House is not cheap but you absolutely get what you pay for, gorgeous location, beautiful accomodation, wonderful food, and complete attention paid to your every need. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the no-tipping rule makes life much less stressful. We've been home for 24 hours and while my face is still glowing from the facial and my muscles are still relaxed from the massage, I'm checking the diary (and the bank balance!) to see when we can go again:)

Room Tip: if you can, get a room with a terrace, breakfast outside overlooking the beach, just heavenly

Truly amazing resort, completely rebuilt a couple years ago. So you get the charm and elegance of an early 1900's seaside palace along with modern scale and amenities. best of everything. well appointed rooms, luxurious bathrooms, views. comfortable luxury throughout the building, from reception to lobby, restaurant to spa, patios to croquet court. the resort offers a host of fun and interesting activities as well. we left with a copy of their "Annual" - a book that is a calendar of their special events for the year. and the service is flawless and gracious, from top to bottom. It would probably be excellent for longer stays as well.

The setting is also a big part of it. The resort is perched on a hill overlooking the ocean (Block Island Channel), in the little village of Watch Hill at the tip of a peninsula. Water in all directions. a lovely little downtown area with restaurants and shops. not crowded. not rushed. Just beautiful. We will be back. If you are in the area, this is a fantastic place to stay.

Room Tip: all rooms are excellent. but upper level rooms are probably the best.

I have enjoyed the Ocean House as a couple and with friends since it re-opened. The reviews about the exellence in service and quality are completely warrented at this marvelous architectural gem in Westerly. But I also wish to share that the Ocean House restaurant is also a perfect spot for business. I have brought business guests there for cocktails and conversation numerous times, enjoying the view and light fare. Recently, I had the pleasure of holding a business luncheon in Seasons, the main restaurant. The service was its usual attentive, detailed quality (only once was this not the case, during New Year's Day, when, I believe, the number of help was below threshold and the team simply overwhelmed). We were able to engage in a lengthy conversation, spreading out the courses, unhurried in mid-day. The service and the atmosphere contributed to a most productive meeting. Thank you, Ocean House!

From arrival to departure the service is outstanding. Our room was spacious and decorated perfectly. Our outdoor patio was large with an awesome view of the ocean. The brunch on Sunday has a feel of turn of century elegance. Be prepared to spend some money as this is truly a 5 star resort and the prices in the restaurants reflect the rating.

Truly magical! The rooms have wonderful detail from the quality of the sheets to the depth of the bathtub! All amenities are first rate. I enjoyed the food service primarily because of the focus on the quality of the ingridents, local when possible. I took 2 cooking classes from Janice which are offered daily as one of the activities scheduled at the hotel, very informative.

Room Tip: They all great.

From George & Carol
Our lifestyle allows us only 1 or 2 day's, at any given time, that can can and does constitute a "vacation". After trying a raft of fine hotels in the Northeast, from NYC to Boston, we now do our very best to frequent the Ocean House as much as 85% of the time that we are "free". In an effort to fit all that we feel about the Ocean House in limited space, I will annotate our thoughts in summary format:
It is seems impossible to find a spec of dust, let alone dirt, on the premises - Architectually, New England eloquence, yet very laid back - The entire staff is exceptionally well trained at their, Relias & Chateaux hotel positions, yet every last one of them lets you feel their sincerity towards you- You will NEVER feel "processed" - From the breakfasts in our room to the Holiday buffets, we feel constantly "charmed" by the ambience and "full" to the brim - A nap at the fireplace in the winter or on the decks facing the ocean is, to us, "mandatory" - Complete, repeated attention to my food allergies or our whims of sorts, are just another way that they care for their guests "in residence" or a as a visitor for a day... -
Special thanks to Ebbie (Elizabeth), Eric, (Mr.) Pendray and Chelsea for the special attention they imparted to Carol and myself a few weeks ago. We shall see you again just as soon as we can.

I sincerely appreciate that what little time you have to get away, you choose to spend at Ocean House. I will be sure to pass your message along to each of the staff members who made your stay so memorable, as well as to our entire team, including those who work behind the scenes to keep our hotel in such impeccable condition or prepare our delicious holiday buffets, as you noted – nothing is more rewarding to us than receiving a review like yours. We all hope to see you again very soon, even if it is only for a day or two!
