“A Great Value”
Reviewed 10 June 2011

I make 3-4 trips each year to the Westerly area for fishing and the Sand Dollar Inn has become my place to stay. A great value with wonderfully conscientious and hospitable owners. I have stayed at other beach motels in the area and all are comparable to some extent. These older privately owned motels are not the Ritz but Dana and KK make every effort to make me welcome and comfortable. The rooms are reliably clean and the beds are comfortable. This is a great value for the money.

My daughter and I arrived after dark and we had the last room at the end of the property that was very wooded. We were nervous about parking but then when we entered the room we were scared because the lock on the door was flimsy, the room looked like a bad movie set with a broken bed and a crooked lamp shade and curtains that did not fit the window! The bathroom was full of mildew and I had to blast the hot water in order to sterlize the shower! I barricaded the door with the desk chair but the chair was wobbly so I am sure someone could have barged right in! Then to top it off, I could not get service on my cell! Sounds like a nightmare, right? We hardly slept all night.

paying $165.00 for a room for 3 over fourth of July weekend, we thought we could have a few friends meet us at the hotel as a group before going out to the beach to celebrate. we all travelling a LONG way, and once our guests came to simply meet, NOT STAY, the owners yelled at us and told us we would be charged extra for the guests, even after explaining many many times they were not staying. customer service is not their #1 priority, squeezing every dollar out of you is. they threatened to tow the guest of ours who PAID TO STAY IN OUR ROOM!! do not go to this place, a tent in the woods is a better value. they should charge $5.00 for the "amenities", what a joke.

We had a really nice time here. We were only staying overnight, but if we were staying in the area again, I would definitely stay here. The staff was wonderful, the rooms were clean, and you can't beat the area. True, there are more updated hotels in the area, but I did not want to spend an arm and a leg to stay overnight. Good value.

This motel is an "efficiency" one - it has only what you need to get by. If you're looking for room service, indoor pool, restaurant - this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a quiet place to crash after a long day in the sun, you'll manage just fine here.

Owners/staff are all friendly and helpful, with printed out directions to get to the beach. It's a convenient location (although it's 3 miles to the beach, the motel is right off the main road - easy to get find.)

The rooms are small and "efficient". Small TV, double bed, tiny bathroom. The bathroom has a tub though, which is nice. It also has a refrigerator, but it wasn't plugged in. The rooms were clean and cool (AC in the window helps, but also the windows (in the main room and in the bathroom) all open to let some fresh air in).

Continental breakfast in the morning was ok - great coffee, nice selection of donuts, muffins, etc. It's not really designed to sit down and eat in the breakfast area, but we would have taken our food back to the room anyway. Who wants to sit and chit-chat with strangers before the coffee has kicked in?

If I had one suggestion to the owners, I would ask that the shampoo/conditioner/soap be updated! Yes, the rooms are out of date, the type of TV hasn't been made since 1992, and the carpets are circa 1970. But after a day (or a week) at the beach, a girl needs more than dish detergent to wash her hair. A little change like this can go a long way.

All in all, I would stay here again, because the staff was nice. A little friendliness helps to overlook those things you might be missing if you're used to staying at some of the nicer hotels.

One vehicle being in the parking lot should have been a clue! he review said "come meet your fellow travelers in out community room" What a joke.! Thr oom consisted of a jumbled mess of games, unmatched furniture, and dirt! The continental breakfast was questionable foo. The table supplied was a desk covered with a plastic tablecloth to the floor, the seating around it was a rocking chair, a wooden chair ,a couch and a bar stool for 4 !!The floor of our room was covered with black hair. the outdoor seating was a dining room chair (cloth covered) that had been there a long time in the weather!! The metal benches were filthy and dirtied our clothes.
The management obviously takes advantage of the motels close proximity to attractions, which was the only advantage. Put the money out for a clean and desirable lace!!

We apologize for any inconvenience you had during your stay with us. Our motel is primarily a beach motel. Most guestsspend their days at the beach and return late in the evenings. Therefore our parking lot is often not full till late in the evening. Because we are not on the beach our prices are half of those that are on the beach and competitive with others in the area. We certainly do not wish to take advantage of our guests. Guests often come to our common room and take their breakfast back to their rooms. Our accommodations there are limited we agree. But the room is cleaned daily as are all our rooms. We have spoken to house keeping in an effort to ensure our clenaliness. We are very sorry you had a poor experience here.
