I just returned from another wonderful stay at the Weekapaug Inn. This was my third visit and it will not be the last. The Weekapaug is the sister inn to the more opulent Ocean House a mere six miles away by bike--and the bike ride between the two properties is definitely a must do as it has the most gorgeous scenery with the Atlantic always in the background. But back to the Weekapaug and all its many comforts. The Inn has been lovingly and beautifully restored. It is like walking back in time to a more gracious and laid back era. It has a warm family atmosphere with every creature comfort possible including wifi in case you just can't disconnect from the modern world. I opted for a pond view deluxe room. The room was on the fourth floor and had a magnificent view. The bathroom had a step up to a landing with a claw foot tub and while I don't normally take baths I had to indulge in a "tubby" here because it was just so decadent to soak and peer out the window at the beautiful grounds and pond below. Breakfast is included with your stay and there is a wonderful selection of traditional and lighter fare options. Don't worry about the calories because there are plenty of outdoor activities that will help you burn them throughout the day, starting with beach nature walks, the fitness center, the pool, kayaking or paddle boarding on the pond, the beach, the bikes, and just generally walking along the private beach. Most of these activities are complimentary and staff really goes out of their way to make them enjoyable. I took a beach nature walk with Mark the naturalist. He pointed out many things that I would have missed had I just walked by myself including the biggest horseshoe crab I had ever seen along with sponges and a diamondback Terrapin turtle sunning itself on a rock. We saw a baby osprey chick craning its neck out of the nest while one of the parents stood guard on the pole. Mark also sets up the telescope on some evenings and highlights various stars and planets which I participated in last year on one of my visits. They are lots of fun and very informative. The Inn definitely caters to families and there are lots of games and activities for the children by the pool and in the main house. Dining in The Restaurant is a leisurely affair and the chef has done wonderful things with local food. There is also lighter fare available in the upstairs Sea Room with the lovely view in the photo for this review. Staff is incredibly accommodating and friendly. One of the things I really enjoy about the Weekapaug is the use of the facilities pre check in which is at 4. However, if you get there early afternoon you will be able to use the beach and take advantage of the other activities on the property; the same holds true for the day you check out. There is a wonderful bath house where you can shower and change clothes after spending the afternoon at the beach before your drive home. I'm a short 2 hours away so this is a real bonus for me. I could go on and on about this property because it is just fabulous but you really have to experience it for yourself. It is a treat and a luxury so if you are looking for a special occasion place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or just want to reward yourself, this is the one.
