Owner description: Park that is a large secluded barrier island with a historic 1859 lighthouse as its centerpiece.

This island, accessible by bridge is almost entirely a state park. It’s got a campsite, small store, visitors center and discovery center and decommissioned lighthouse open to the public. The beach is long but narrow, disappearing in places at high tide. the long fishing pier is closed due to hurricane damage. Everything else is well maintained.

We had a look at the very nice sand beach, but mostly enjoyed the low country scenery on the drive from Beaufort.

My wife and I were staying in Beaufort, only 25 minutes away. The weather was hot so the beach was a perfect place. It wasn't crowded and was so wide, especially at low tide. You could just walk on and on. Having the forest at the edge, with palm trees, gave it more of a tropical feel. Parking is right there.

Visited with my sisters, didn’t stay but just rode thru, I don’t camp but I want to go and camp here. It’s right on the beach and so beautiful. If you love camping with not many amenities then this is your place.

The other side where the lighthouse is also beautiful and peaceful. If you’ve never been here make sure you stop by.
