Atmosphere is so so and now the meals have become as well…. Local fare called "Frogmore Stew" has become a quick, get it to the table, fare.

Was in Beaufort for a Jimmy Buffett "Live at the Drive-In" show and connected with some friends at Steamers. This restaurant has been in business quite some time and it appears to be a local favorite. The bartender and most of the waitstaff knew customers by name which is always a good sign.

The 6 of us had a marvelous table. Each table is "equippped" with built in buckets for dumping your shells and shrimp tails. The seafood seems pretty fresh and the sides were very good. The beer was cold and everyone went out of their way to be certain we were enjoying ourselves.

We will return.

We've been going to Steamer's for nine years now. Routinely we would order the shrimp or scallop baskets and we're never disappointed. Yes, the prices have increased but they have all over. Last night (19th) I ordered the special - Mahi-Mahi with a salsa cilanto sauce. IT WAS OUTSTANDING! Perfectly cooked by the new chef (3 months) and incredibly moist. Paired well with sweet potato fries. I'm going back asap.

Menu prices wrong. Asked waitress what price for dozen raw oysters on half shell were & she said $8.90. So we ordered & ate them. When we were done & ordered the next dozen she told us she had made a mistake...that they were $18.95. We thot she was joking. We told her absolutely not & thats not what we were told. Then di er came. They charged us full adult price for a small cup of coke for our 4 yr granddaughter. The mac & cheese was left over & hard. On the fried platter..several of the oysters were bad. It was very small portions. We dont recommend anyone going there. We definately wont again for sure. We were shocked when our bill came out.... even tho they made the mistake..they still charged us more for the raw oysters than they quoted us. Guess we should have known there may be problems with the place as except for 2 people drinking @ the bar area... we were the only people there.

We ended up here after hitting the beach at Hunting Island State Park, so we were a bit ragged and sandy, but felt completely comfortable at Steamer Oyster & Steakhouse.

Our waitress was a hoot and helped get us up to speed on local specialties like the Frogmore stew and shrimp burgers. I had never heard of a shrimp burger, much less actually eaten one, so my curiousity was piqued. It didn't disappoint, crisp on the outside, tender and delicious on the inside.

We had fun tossing our shrimp shells in the bucket set in the middle of the table and quaffing a few beers. The dining area is warmly paneled and decorated with original paintings that were primitive but matched the downhome charm of the place. The bar looks like it would get interesting later in the evening.

If you fancy yourseld as a sophisticate you may pass on this place, but if you want good food served up with a touch of Gullah charm, it's for you.
