We are staying at a historic hotel built in 1924 the Francis Marion Hotel 387 King St 843-722-0600. Check in was smooth, fast and such nice and friendly front desk girls. Grand lobby looks like a movie set from the past. Our room was on the 8 floor - very nicely decor with 2 super comfy queen beds, flat screen TV, 2 desk & free wifi (every hotel should have free wifi). One of the desk lamps has multiple out lets on the base to charge all your gadgets. The bathroom is small but not too small and very clean. The only negative thing in the room is that there is no in-room safe or mini-frig.

Very historic and we enjoyed our upgrade to a suite. Convenient walking distance to the school. The staff was very helpful in suggesting places to have breakfast. We were very pleased with the ability to be right there on the campus. Parking our car in the garage next door was great. I would highly reccomend coming back.

Spent 4 nights with my husband for a quick shore point getaway before heading to a family gathering in western NC. We were completely happy with the Francis Marion. We loved the old world charm of the lobby and the historical character of the rooms. Charleston after all is all about history! Our room overlooked the park so we had a nice break from the usual brick and concrete city view. The rooms were nicely maintained and the staff was very accommodating. Everyone from the front desk to the bell service to housekeeping was friendly and helpful with an wide array of requests. We made a couple day trips to Folly Beach and Kiawah Island. The staff was super helpful with directions and suggestions for restaurants, etc. The parking was a little pricey but not enough more than the nearby public garage to make giving up valet service worthwhile. We ate lunch at the Swamp Fox restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the fresh and carefully prepared menu items. Wish we would have tried those pecan pancakes for breakfast! There's a nice farmer's market across the street in the park on Saturday morning that was really convenient and great for picking up some little gifts for friends as well as some goodies for our road trip. There's a Starbucks in the lobby that's convenient and always busy. Around the corner ( out the door and to the left!) there's a nice local coffee shop called Kudu that let's you cup it with the locals, We would definitely consider staying here again when we return to Charleston.

Spent two nights with the family and had a great stay. An 'old world' hotel with lots of character located very centrally in down-town Charleston. Very convenient to the stores and restaurants. Within the hotel is a Starbucks which is great if you like that sort of thing

Staff were exceedingly helpful and accommodating. Rooms were good, if a little small by today's standards. We had a junior suite to accommodate our family of five. The room were good, sumptuous decor. Nevertheless the bathroom was tiny - it would have been a squeeze even for two.

It was perfect for what we were looking for; lots of history, elegance and great service. If you are looking for all the amenities and the space of a modern hotel you may want to think twice.

Very beautiful lobby- very Handsome staff.
My wife and I took a short vacation recently. The hotel is beautiful we did have the following concerns which stopped me from giving this Hotel a perfect score.
The Hotel is older built in 1929 but still elegant.
Toilet handle dripped water when flushed.
Coffee- The lack of having coffee available in the lobby seemed to be rather non accommodating. This is not a very expensive thing to offer and something I have grown accustomed to having while traveling.
Lack of Free Parking- $16.00 a day. The contract garage rates were no cheaper for the guests than for anyone parking there. I would expect free or greatly discounted parking as one of the hotels guests. My wife and I enjoyed our stay but the above listed concerns did take away from giving your hotel a higher rating.

The staff was very professional and attentive to my two special requests, it was not a problem. and handled quickly. It had the old world charm feel of a hotel. Bedding was very clean and comfortable, but rooms a bit dated, nothing that made it unenjoyable. A nice change from a modern hotel, I felt my kids got to experience something different.

Room Tip: At the far end of the historic district but still within the district, and less expensive by far for...

The staff was so very friendly. The location couldn't be better. It will be the only place I stay in Charleston. I really thought it was worth doing the vallet as parking is difficult in Charleston. It was also great to have a wonderful restaurant connected to the hotel. Location couldn't be better.
