My wife and I attended a Pulp and Paper Environmental Conference which was held at the Francis Marion Hotel at the of June 2010, We were etremely impressed with the accomodations the Francis Marion Hotel provided. It is situated in the middle of resturants, shops, and sightseeing. The Hotel staff from the Front Desk to the Bell Stand were first class! I would highly recommend staying at the Francis Marion Hotel.

A BIG THUMBS UP to the Bell Staff at this hotel. These guys were friendly, helpful, funny and had great suggestions. They always greeted us with a good morning/afternoon/evening and a smile. The lobby will take your breath away upon entering - it is so pretty!! Front desk were quick to get us checked in and answer all our questions. Our room was very nice - small bathroom but it didn't matter! Bed was extremely comfortable. Stopped in the bar for a libation a couple of times and each bartender had great dining suggestions. Loved having Starbucks in the lobby!! Would definitely stay here again!! Room rates were great following the 4th of July holiday!! Hated the $12 per day parking garage rates, tho!!

My now fiance and I stayed in Francis Marion for 5 nights. We were in room 916 and yes it was a tad bit small but we had room enough for two pieces of luggage and we were able to move around very easily. Obviously every room is different and everyones experience is going to be different. The room was clean, there was some rusting on the fixtures in the bathroom but in no way did it effect the quality of stay we had.

We did use the valet service. It was $17 a day or you could park the car yourself in the parking garage for $12 a day. Zach and the rest of the valet crew worked hard and were always nice always offering advice or directions if we needed it. Wendy, the concerige, was very helpful giving us directions and suggesting a ghost tour that isn't as well known but was a great suggestion, truely enjoyed it. The internet is free occasionally it loses connections and it took a while to first connect to there at&t internet but when it did work the 90% working I was able to go on facebook and upload my pictures and talk to people.

The only down side, and the hotel has no control over this, is the location. I would say its just right outside where all the stores and where the fun stuff is. I mean walk across the street and you hit all the happening things. Its about a 20-30 minute walk to the battery (which while walking down you pass market st, the antique district, all the fun stuff to see) its just exhausting when its 105 degrees and humidity is high. Is it near the ghetto? If you make a left out of the front doors and go down 7 or 8 blocks then yes. Its just that making a left there not as many stores and stuff to do that way. Great smoothie shop and some nice restaurants but in the other direction is SO much more. I never felt threaten or scared, hell we did a ghost tour at night. I would def. stay there again maybe not in the middle of july though. There are so many more cool, nice looking hotels to explore down there.

My traveling friend and I so enjoyed our stay in this elegant, comfortable hotel. Our room was so pretty with a great view, the service was top-notch and even the restaurant food was excellent. We could walk to all the historic places in the downtown area.

Traveled to Charleston, most beautiful city in the world. Francis Marion Hotel is centrally located, convenient to shopping, historic sites, and museums, nightlife. Rooms have great views, staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Restaurant has a wonderful menu with extremely good selection and pricing. Bathrooms are small and dated, but very clean.

With the friendly, knowledgeable staff, classic charm of the 1920s decor that was clean and well maintained, incredibly comfortable beds, and perfect location, I would not visit Charleston again without staying at the Francis Marion! Without a doubt, it was a great experience and a great value! Thank you, Francis Marion!

I stayed at the Francis Marion hotel this past weekend (July 4th) with a girlfriend. This was our first trip to Charleston and we were there to sightsee and visit with my family who lives there. This hotel was perfect for those needs as it is located at the north end of the shopping on King Street (great shopping!) and near the highways (you can't see them from the hotel, though).

The hotel is gorgeous; very charming and unique. The staff seemed to take a lot of pride in the hotel and were friendly and attentive. We had a deluxe room on the 6th floor which was huge. Two closets, two large double beds (SO comfortable!), two desks/vanities. The bathroom was very small and the plumbing could use some work, but as it is an old hotel it was almost expected.

There is a Starbucks downstairs that opens at 6am, which was very convenient. There are also a ton of chain and independent restaurants very nearby. The battery, the market, and the French Quarter are all within walking distance (although it may be a bit far for people with difficulty walking).

The parking garage is a few steps down, so I would recommend unloading luggage or doing valet if you have children and/or lots of luggage. We self-parked to save a few bucks, and it wasn't a problem.

Oh, the free wi-fi in the room. was so slow it wasn't even worth using it.

Overall, though, I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel.
