A nice king room and price made for a good night stay. Having come up to charleston early and reservations in a bed and breakfast for the next night we needed to find something to accomodate us for the evening. A few miles away was the Historic District Courtyard by Marriott which was much more expensive and the location and priced worked out and saved us a few dollars. Overall rrom was clean and good but the view wasn't the best as we were on first floor, but a good night sleep was what we were looking for.

Stayed in a jacuzzi suite which was comfortable and had all the amenities. The rocking chairs on the very large balcony overlooking the marina was a nice touch! The staff was super friendly and the complimentary coffee was very much appreciated.

Room Tip: Splurge for the suite!

Our Jacuzzi suites are really special! The jet-tub located in an alcove near the bed is quite large and the large water front wrap around balcony affords the most amazing sunset views! Ask to see one..

The rooms had been renovated and they are making the best with set up they have. It's all about the location. Drinks, outside on the upper patio in the evening, overlooking the Marina as the sun slowly set was the very best moment here. The town of Charleston offers a free shuttle into the historic district but cabs were also easily found coming and going in the late evening when the shuttles aren't running. (The hotel offers an all day shuttle for a very low price per day as well) Comfortable, nothing particularly outstanding about the service although up to Marriott standards for sure. Parking is very convenient and complementary when we stayed. Breakfast buffet was offered for a price but we choose to hike over to Hominy Grill both mornings.

Room Tip: ask for a water view - the hotel was full when we arrived but they will accommodate when they can.

Very nice hotel on the water and walking distance to the U of SC medical facilities (MUSC). Historic is a hefty walk away. Plenty of parking lots in the historic district, though somewhat steep at $1/half hour. We received a discounted rate thru the hospital. Asked for an upgrade (Marriott Club member) upon arrival and got it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Very nice, 2 queen bed room with a balcony. Comfortable beds and quiet. Comp morning paper and coffee in the lobby. Great place to stay if you have business at the medical campus. OK if you want to spend all your time downtown.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room upgrade.

In good weather the location on the river is hard to beat with a great outdoor sitting area. The hotel has been refurbished and looks good on the surface but the pool and hot tub, surrounded by broken glass tables, have not been touched and look old and down market. Likewise the old elevators let the whole place down. Putting that to one side we really suffered with incompetent staff, except for the concierge guy Eddie! Breakfast staff did not know how to serve and we were left wondering what training they had. A classic at the bar one evening was to ask for a gin and tonic , have to point the gin to the new barman and then watch him mix the gin with the tonic in a cocktail shaker and shake the whole lot! Please give your inexperienced staff some training! One particular young receptionist was rude to the point of being nonchalant. With strong leadership and some training this could be a great hotel, as it is we will probably go elsewhere next time. Shame really.

We are our finishing our final touches of renovations now that the season has slowed. We expect no imact to our guests other than recognizing how beautiful it is . We are also please to report that the pool furniture has been updated. The Barman mentioned only worked that one and night and we thank him for identifying this challenge. Southern Hospitality is our specialty and we apologize for a negitive impression. Rest assured we have followed up on his concerns so others are not disappointed as they were. We hope that the positive staff comments you read in other reviews will outway this experience. Happy Holidays from the Courtyard Waterfront Team!

Stayed 5 nights. Liked the proximity to downtown without the "downtown" price. The view of the Ashley River and the harbor were great, especially the sunsets. No restaurant for dinner at the hotel, but plenty to choose from only a short drive away. Or the staff will gladly call a cab for you. Great time was had by my daughter and I on our getaway.

The view speaks for itself. Also very nice rooms. The only drawback is that the hotel is not in walking distance to East Bay and King Street and many attractions.
