“Wonderful Home in the Center of Charleston History”
Reviewed 20 January 2014 via mobile

We were fortunate enough to have one of the 2-story suites looks and opens into the charming courtyard. It was convenient to the conference center where I was attending a small conference. The catering staff was simply outstanding, with prompt invisible service. The room was charming, so that the single tiny bath did not detract too much. We loved the proximity to the historic market area for evening and morning strolls.

This is the place to stay - close to everything and you can walk or take a carriage ride. The rooms are good size. The staff made you feel welcome and if you get a chance to meet David at the front desk he will make sure you are taken care of.

Room Tip: As for a room on the courtyard side for a quieter nigh'ts sleep.

Did not sleep a wink! We were in room 151 --probably one of the last rooms left since we booked earlier that same morning ---but come on, an elevator that sounds like a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant is not really ideal after you've driven a ways and need to rest. We are really not hard to please, either. But every single time the elevator moved, I rolled over --- again, and again, and again. You get the point. They should not even charge people to stay in that bottom floor room. When my husband finally did complain, they acted like it happens all the time. Immediately gave him free breakfasts, free night's stay, and a free carriage tour. I mean, they just handed them over. So, they literally paid us to stay here. We liked the location and atmosphere of this hotel. However, there are probably better options in and around Charleston. It was very clean, which is a huge thing for me. I would imagine other rooms are fine as long as they are not on the bottom floor near the elevator. And, let's face it, they could have just said, "Too bad." So, at least they were very hospitable about the situation. I do have to say that the room was VERY small. I mean, I know it was the historic district, and that they do what they can with the building and space. However, the bathroom was so tight you could barely turn around in it and the bed was so close to the outer wall that you could not walk beside it. So, for what it's worth, I would probably look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 151 or anything on bottom floor near elevator.

It was our first visit to Charleston and The Doubletree in the historic part was a treat! We had a corner room with wonderful lighting and windows on two sides. Very spacious and everyone working in the hotel was very friendly. We'll return!

LOVE THE DOUBLE TREE !!! I appreciate the fact that the staff is always very kind and friendly. The room is always wonderful. I always sleep well. Love the fact that I can control the room temp. Oh and there is a place to smoke on the patio downstairs. I am most appreciative of this. I am routinely in conference there have never really gone for pleasure, but it is a pleasure staying in your facility. thank you

The wife and I stayed here for 5 days during the winter. It is a great location on market street and have stayed here a few times many years ago. Service is great. The morning breakfast is not up to par, but there are many place around for a great breakkie like "Not another broken egg". Was clean and attention to detail was great. Bathroom seems to fog up quickly so ladies, take that into consideration if doing your hair after a shower.

Good on ya!
