“Romantic, Friendly, Wonderful stay for my Anniversary.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2011

My husband and I just stayed at the Andrew Pinckney Inn in Charleston for our 4 year anniversary and we had an amazing time. The room was unbelievable and the staff was friendly and very accommodating. It was already the week of my anniversary and since I had not booked anything I just knew I was not going to get a room, but I spoke with the General Manager and he was extremely helpful. Not only was I able to book a room but when we arrived they had Champaign and a card telling us HAPPY ANNIVERSARY waiting on the living room table. I very much look forward to staying at the Andrew Pinckney Inn again and would recommend this to everyone!!!!!!!!!

As a traveler that was attempting to attend to the passion of painting with Mary Whyte and celebrating my dear mother's 87th birthday, I couldn't have chosen a finer location than the Andrew Pinckney Inn. From our entrance, we were received with kindness and generosity of spirit by General Manager Barry and his capable staff.

My mum was catered to by very caring housekeeping staff. My painting location was just blocks away; affording me the double pleasure of attending to my business and returning to monitor my mother's needs. Barry presented Mother with Godiva Chocolates the morning of her birthday and anticipated each of her needs before they arose, while visiting and discussing anthropology issues with her throughout our week stay.

Much of the largesse shown us well exceeds the protocols of a boutique hotel and reverberate from the spirit of genuine hospitality that Barry fostered and his staff reflected. Each young person at the desk followed Barry's thoughtful attention to detail.

Mother has recently maintained that she may be too old to travel again--if this be so, I'm most grateful that her last experience was in this delightful nexus of engaging humanity
and unfettered efficiency. My only regret is that we took so long to post our gratitude. ..was waiting to add pics but never did. Happily submitted, Vita and Archie Jones

Room Tip: Go to breakfast early as the Atrium fills quickly.

This was our first trip to Charleston and we wanted to stay in the downtown historic area. The Andrew Pinckney Inn is very strategicly located to all the major sites. We did Market Street and the Fort Sumter tour, an easy walk to both. The weather was not great, rainy and cold, so the morning breakfast on the patio was not in the cards. We did take a tray back to our room, since there was also no room on the second floor lounge. If you encounter bad weather during your stay, I suggest you just go out for breakfast. Our room (101) was in the Church Street building across the street from the lobby. It was right at street level and the ice machine was just down the hall. These two factors caused me quite a bit of lost sleep. The ice machined dumped a new load every few minutes. Passing traffic, including large trucks, sounded as if they were in our room. Each incoming guest passed through the front door adjacent to our room and, even the quiet ones made noise. The room itself was quite nice and spacious, except for the tiny bathroom. The staff were mostly helpful (except at check in) and even agreed to watch over my laptop while we were out. Their safe deposit boxes were not large enough to accomodate it. We never got to sample the cookies they advertise. Each time we visited the lobby, they were already out. Also, a caveat for those with large SUVs or pick ups, their parking garage has a 6'10" maximum height limit. My F-150, with cap and roof racks would not fit, but I was lucky to be able to park behind the lobby. There is very limited parking there, so I never moved after we initially arrived. So, if you decide to stay here, do not accept rooms 101, 102, or 103 (they're all adjacent to the offending ice machine). If we go again, we will probably stay at a different hotel.

We are in the process of installing sound proofing windows on the first and second floors of the Church Street Building and making other improvements in the near future in attempts to reduce noise that may affect our guest's comfort or sleep. One of those other improvements is relocating the ice machine to a new vending area that will be completed this coming Fall/Winter. We hope that you will stay with us again in the near future to experience the wonderful continued enhancements we make on the property. Thank you for your comments and valuable time.

We had a challenging situation at another rental location and they moved us to the Andrew Pickney Inn. It couldn't have been better. Fabulous room, service, location within waling distance to everything (we never drove the car), quiet at night, superb complimentary breakfast. We can't say enough great things, especially after the rocky start we had downtown the day/night before. The staff were so complimentary and understanding of our situation. Great vacation and the API made it superb. We WILL stay there from now on whenever we visit Charleston.

We stayed 4 nights at this quaint inn that I booked on Priceline the day before our trip. We were hoping to get a good deal at the Doubletree or Renaissance, but prices were so high there. I am so glad we stayed here, as it was the perfect place to stay in a great old and charming place like Charleston.

After checking in, I found out that we did not have a bathtub (which got me in the doghouse with my wife). The next morning they were very helpful and upgraded us to a better room with a tub at no charge!

They also have a fantastic little balcony on the 4th floor that they serve a (free) continental breakfast on every morning, which is a great place to drink coffee as you overlook the harbor, market, St Philips Church, etc.

Our first night we ate at Hanks, which was about a 5 second walk. It is a 1 minute walk to the market area, and Church street. Shops on King street are a 5 min walk or less. 2nd night we ate at Ansons (which was amazing) about 30 sec walk.

This place does a great job of combining the allure of Old Charleston with modern fixtures and furnishings, and the location is almost the best in town.

If/when we return to Charleston, we will be staying at the Andrew Pinckeny Inn!

Thank you for the wonderful comments about the Andrew Pinckney Inn. We are definitely one of the better values in Historic Charleston as you mentioned. What a wonderful way to start your morning in Charleston with views of the Charleston Port and Market Street area from the Rooftop Terrace while having breakfast. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

We really enjoyed staying here at this boutique inn. The Inn is very conveniently located near the heart of the city - a block from the Market, but very walkable to the even more intesting parts of the city. The room we had was quite large with several comfortable reading chairs. Bed was very, very comfortable. When we made our reservation we noted that we liked rooms with windows -- the very responsive staff booked us in a corner room with great windows and light. We found it best to book through the hotel -- very competitve, especially with AAA discount -- even better than Orbitz, Hotels.com, etc. All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful -- the front desk staff helped recommend restaurants which turned out to be great (Hanks Seafood, just a block away, and High Cotton) and booked our reservations and always had helpful information. What is termed the "expanded" continental breakfast was much more, with hard boiled eggs, either an egg strata or French toast, grits, cereals, bagels, biskits, fresh fruit, juices, and more -- all served on the rooftop dining area -- quite good. Afternoon tea and coffee served with great cookies. Free WIFI and a computer setup for guests' use. We would come back here in a minute -- and have already recommended it to a friend, but not surprisingly, they were booked solid for those dates.

Room Tip: We liked our corner room, 2nd floor.

Located on the north side of old Charleston but just one block from the Market so its completely walkable to all of historic Charleston, this inn is an unbelievably good deal. It has clean, comfortable, quiet, elegant rooms and best of all the concierge went out of his way to help us with restaurant ideas, parking for our car, etc. And he was interested in the rest of our travels and had good ideas about places way outside of Charleston. Stay at this place, it created lots of happy memories.
