Owner description: The Foundation welcomes visitors to explore daily life in one of Charleston's most exquisite dwellings. Located in Downtown Charleston near High Battery, the Nathaniel Russell House Museum, 51 Meeting Street, is widely recognized as one of America's most important neoclassical dwellings. Historic Charleston Foundation purchased the National Historic Landmark in 1955, and the house served as the Foundation's headquarters for 37 years. Today, the interiors are restored to their original 1808 grandeur and surrounded by formal gardens.

The guided tour of this restored home was quite interesting and informative. What they had to do to restore this home to it's original state is amazing. Our tour guide was lovely and knowledgeable. Learned some new things on this visit.

This is a beautiful house with a very informative tour related to architecture and decor. As many have mentioned the staircase is a highlight. The house is not large but the tour still takes about an hour. Some aspects of the house have been renovated and furniture is not original but guides do a good job of explaining which furnishings are still connected to Charleston and the history of the family who owned the home. Would recommend.

This family home was reasonably interesting, in particular the cantilevered staircase though it was a shame you couldn't walk up the staircase. The rooms were moderately interesting but a fairly standard family home with few remaining original pieces from the period.
Our visit was enhanced by Ruth, our rather quirky guide who was good fun and very relaxed. However the content of the house, whilst charming, wasn't overly informative.

The staircase is one of the major drawing factors of the house. We wish visitors were still allowed to walk up it, however, safety is our main priority. We are so happy that you enjoyed your guide, Ruth. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, and we hope to see you again!

This is a Victorian property. In my opinion the admission fee is a little high for the length of time you get inside. Our guide was very informative. We visited here after looking around Heyward Washington House, a pre revolutionary building; they complimented each other very well.

We are sorry if the tour was not as long as you expected it to be. You might enjoy visiting our other property, the Aiken-Rhett House. This tour is longer, and you are free to roam the property at your own pace. You can also get a discount if you package the tickets together. We hope that you will visit our properties again soon!

This is an example of an excellent restoration of a home where the elite of Charleston lived. The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the home, the family and life in Charleston. Recommended.
