Owner description: Charleston's oldest church has been tolling its bells on the hour since 1764. Dynamic Downtown Worship in the Anglican Tradition

This church is so beautiful with the woodwork in it (cedar) and the stained glass panels that depict "Easter Morning" and "The Annunciation". George Washington and Robert E. Lee both worshipped in this church during their times in Charleston (Charles Town). It leaves you in awe!

We walked through the cemetery first remarking on some of the sad epitaphs on the gravestones; many unreadable due to age and wear. It is a lovely and calming place of meditation and appreciation for old world life in the south. Inside, the church was lovely with plenty of historical information available. Very interesting construction.

The church, grounds, and graveyard are very beautiful and serene. We were able to take pictures inside the church, which surprised me. Wish we had been available to come to Sunday service.

We were not able to attend church in the morning so I looked for churches that had an evening service. St. Michael's offered a low-key, casual and lovely service, with beautiful guitar and piano music, a thoughtful sermon, and an obviously faithful, dedicated community. Thank you, St. Michael's, for opening your doors to tourists who need and want to worship when they travel. We were happy to worship with you.

Wow, what a gorgeous and welcoming church! We stopped in for a visit on an historic walking tour and got to sit in pew 43 where George Washington prayed for his troops. Don't miss the cemetery out back!
