If you stop in Charleston, you HAVE to stop here. There is a pew where George Washington sat when he visited the city. The volunteer was really nice and very informative! The church itself is gorgeous! A must see church in Charleston!

We love to visit old churches on vacations and this is one of our new favorites. The oldest church in Charleston, dating back to 1752, the sanctuary is still gorgeous. The pews are still gated and it was fun to sit in the same pew that George Wahington occupied when he worshipped there one Sunday morning. Our guide was very informative and friendly. We also toured the graveyard. Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to do that as the ground is very uneven and some of.the headstones have shifted and sunk into the ground.

Jim greeted us with a smile and a "Welcome to St. Michaels!" He answered our questions and gave us some interesting facts about the church! I was lovely to talk with him and as we left he sent us off with a wish of a good stay in Charleston!

We visited this church while on a Free Tours by Foot architectural walking tour. It wasn't as fancy as some of the cathedrals we've visited on other vacations but it had gorgeous woodwork and the pews had doors on them which were pretty cool. Our tour guide explained how families used to rent their pews so they were set up sort of like box seats. We also saw the pew where Washington and Lee sat when they visited Charleston. The podium and organ were awesome. Really beautiful and it's free!

We came to see where Washington, Lee and many other notables worshiped. The church is spectacular. I was really impressed with the wood and stained glass. They say that not much has changed, and if it hasn't they have done an excellent job of maintaining history.

The adjacent cemetery is also interesting.
