“Wonderful B&B Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

My husband and I and another couple recently spent 3 nights at the 1837 B&B. This was our first visit to Charleston and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The staff at the 1837 were all so hospitable. Erin was so helpful with her suggestions of where to visit and which restaurants to try. She was always willing to make reservations if necessary. Plus she made a pretty awesome breakfast every morning and loved those delicious oatmeal cookies in the afternoon with a glass of ice tea. We loved sitting out on the piazza and chatting with her and the owner Mohammed. They both gave us some great tips. We stayed in room 3-2. It has a lovely four-poster bed and an extra twin. The room was clean and well maintained. The inn is in a convenient location, close to the College of Charleston, with an easy walk to the historic district. There is off street parking. We loved Charleston and would like to return some day. We'll definitely stay at the 1837!

Room Tip: Room 3-2 has an extra twin bed!

My husband and I spent 2 wonderful nights at the 1837 in June 2014. We had just been on a very rough boat trip for 5 days so it was heaven to get into that super comfy four poster bed. The staff was attentive and helpful with suggestions as to where to eat and go. The owner (innkeeper) Mohamad has had an interesting career in the hospitality business. We stayed one night in room 2-2 and because the inn was full, we stayed the second night in 3-2. Both rooms were wonderful. 3-2 has a little single bed in addition to the queen bed so you could have another person.
The breakfasts were yummy and it was fun chatting with the other guests. And Charleston---I'm still dreaming of fried oysters and shrimp and grits! Oh yes, the location is perfect--just a few blocks from everything.
Suggestion---one day we went to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Our guide gave such an entertaining tour and the place is lovely. Want to go back when the azaleas are blooming.

Thank you very much for your kind remarks and feedback. We were honored by having with us and are glad that you had a great time during your stay with us. We hope to see you back in Charleston and at 1837 B&B often and particularly in spring when the flowers bloom at the plantations and gardens.

The room on the 3rd floor is the best. The rooms in the back were once slave quarters and were cramped and had a heavy feel. Great Southern Hospitality and location. We did not care for the breakfast each morning.

At the end of April thru May 2, 2014, my husband and I stayed at the 1837 B&B. It was our first visit and we were not disappointed. The 1837 home was lovely with quaint period guest rooms and a charming downstairs foyer and dining room where perfect southern breakfasts are served each day. Both downstairs rooms adjoin an inviting porch with rocking chairs, small tables and plenty of shade. You will never taste a better breakfast than here! Scrumptious, delicious, beautifuly prepared and lots of good black coffee to start your day. The guest services at the B&B were unequaled. From Jane, a friendly expert on all of Charleston, to Erin who makes you feel so special and important, to Kathleen who will help with any request, to the new owners, Mo and Lynn, you will feel at home, pampered, educated on the local history and listened to regarding your special travel requests. We will definitely stay here again when in Charleston! Enjoy!

Room Tip: All rooms are delightful but don't stay in the carriage house unless you can climb a narrow spir...

My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary with a weeklong trip to Charleston. Our stay at the 1837 B&B was perfect. We enjoyed everything about the inn. The room was quaint and comfortable. Each morning the breakfast was filling but not heavy. Walking to the historic district was a 5-10 minute walk. This was nice because you were able to get to the city quickly without all the congestion of being on King or Meeting Street. It was also convenient that they had onsite parking. In the afternoon, tea, lemonade, and a light snack were always available. Jane and Erin were especially helpful in recommending places to eat, quickest way to get somewhere, and just answering questions about the city. If you are looking for a nice place to stay, with an attentive staff, this is the place. Hopefully, we will be able to stay there again soon.

We stayed in room 3-1 if you do not mind stairs it is the very best room with a private area on the porch for you to read and our enjoy the sun. The room was large and lovely and perfect. It was easy to walk to everything. Everyone especially Jane was helpful and welcoming. We like a bit of privacy and you can be as "chatty" or not as you wish. We would absolutely stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms 3-1 ad 2-1 are the best with 3-1 having a private seating area outside.

The staff here were lovely and very helpful. They cooked a wonderful 'southern' breakfast which was served in a beautiful dining room. The room was very comfortable. The location was easy to walk to the historic parts of Charleston.
