“Great atmosphere, fantastic location”
Reviewed 29 June 2012

The hotel is in a converted mid-19th century private residence with enormous verandas overlooking a courtyard, which gives a perfect backdrop for a visit to Charleston. While the rooms are small, they are very nicely appointed with antiques and reproduction furniture, and the late afternoon wine reception in the courtyard is a great way to meet other hotel guests. The breakfast is just a continental breakfast, but having it served on a tray in your room or the courtyard gives it an extra touch of class. For the price, you can't beat this hotel's location or ambience.

Thank you for your gracious words about the inn. We truly do appreciate the compliments about the wine and cheese reception, and about the wonderful furniture collection we have. Of course, the central location is a plus to any visitor that is seeking out anything the city has to offer. Please come back and see us again, if your travels ever bring you back this way.

We came to Charleston for Spoleto and stayed here. It was located near a lot of museums and good restaurants. We could easily walk from place to place and when we needed directions that staff was helpful. Neal gave us ideas for places to eat and directions to the different Spoleto events that we came to see, he even drew maps for us to follow. The room that we stayed in was comfortable and nicely decorated. It is a perfect place to stay especially if you want to stay downtown, we will be back for sure.

Thank you for your gracious words about our staff and the inn. Spoleto is a magnificent time of the year to relax and see what Charleston has to offer. Since the Elliott House is centrally located in the city, every event for Spoleto is just around the corner. Please keep us in mind, when you are planning your next trip to Charleston.

We've stayed here 5 or 6 times and once since they renovated in 2011. I like that it's not stuffy at all. It's quiet and unassuming and I don't ever feel underdressed. We always enjoy the hot tub and the cheap wine and cheese in the afternoon. The air conditioning units are better since the renovations - that's appreciated since once we got one that leaked and made the room smell moldy (they were able to move us into a different room fortunately). This is an old building with creaky floors and crooked door frames. Not everyone will think this is charming, but we love the lived-in feel. The parking garage across the street is quite convenient and the entire area feels safe for walking.

Room Tip: Husk (the restaurant next door) stays open late and if kitchen noise bothers you, you probably want...

Thank you, so much for choosing to come back to the Elliott House Inn. I’m glad that you enjoyed the new renovations that have been made while we were closed. As you mentioned, all the AC units are new since we reopened in October. The wine and cheese is a great way to meet guest and to relax in the spacious courtyard. The feel of the lived in rooms is just one example of the nurturing quaint feel at the Elliott House, and this is one of the many reasons why guests come back for years.

We had a wonderful time at the Elliott House Inn. The location was great and it was so easy to get in and out. If you plan on driving a lot, keep in mind that you'll either be parking in the street or in the parking garage, as they don't have their own lot. We left our car in the garage, max amount of 20/day. We stayed on a ground floor room, queen bed., very cozy room. It was so wonderful to have 'happy hour' every day compliments of the inn, and we enjoyed the continental breakfast delivered to the room. The shower had very low water pressure, but otherwise the bathroom felt like a real bathroom, not like a tiny hotel bathroom. We loved the location, it was a quick walk from everything Charleston has to offer, and a short bike ride from anything much further. The staff was very helpful and courteous, and made checking in and out very easy. There was some construction going on the mornings we were there, so the one way street where it is located got a little busy and noisy, but otherwise was great, couldn't hear other rooms or any weird noises. It is very close to some excellent restaurants and close to great galleries and the waterfront park. Loved it!

The newly renovated rooms are wonderful - the beds are great. We loved the central courtyard for the continental breakfast, happy hour and just relaxing. The customer service was the best I've ever experienced. They were exceptional in helping to find restaurants, make reservations, getting directions, even printing off your boarding passes for you.

We loved it and will definitely return.

Room Tip: I would recommend not getting a room right by the street due to early morning garbage pickup noises...

We spent 3 nights at the Elliott House. It is not luxurious, but much more than adequate. The price and the location could not be beat. It is nestled in the middle of 3 excellent restaurants, and is walking distance to everything you might want to see in the Historic District. The choices for the continental breakfast were limited, but enough to get you started for a day of sight seeing. The office staff was most helpful.

The value at the Elliott House can’t be beat! The furnishings are reminiscent of the Victorian period of Charleston’s past. The breakfast does have a couple of different options to choose from, but as mentioned it is just enough to get you up and moving to explore the city.

We loved walking to all the sites downtown. No need for a car. the courtyard was the perfect setting for complimentary breakfast and wine and cheese later in the day. If you want a tour or need to know anything about the city ask for Neil at the front desk!

Room Tip: Request the 2cd or third floor

I’m glad, that you had a wonderful stay at the Elliott House Inn! Neal is great with local history, and is a license tour guide in the city. You hit the nail on the head, when you mentioned the wonderful amenities at the hotel, because the courtyard allows a gathering spot to share ideas amongst the guest.
