“Adorable Property in Great Location”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

We loved the quaint room and beautiful furnishings. The staff was very helpful and we loved being right in the middle of the historic district. There is a parking garage across the street and we never need to move the car again after we got to the hotel. They deliver a delicious, continental breakfast to either your room or the courtyard every morning.
Our only problem was a new mattress was delivered to our room during our stay and we were not told that this might happen. We may have secured some of our belongings or just appreciated being advised of this. We requested no housekeeping that day and did not expect anyone to be in the room.
They have a great package that includes a gift certificate and reservation for the fabulous restaurant, Husk, which is right next door. Terrific idea.
We would stay here again and recommend it highly.

Room Tip: Try a third floor room as footsteps can be heard overhead from 1st or second floor rooms. Ask which...

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent stay with us. I’m so glad to hear that you really enjoyed your stay at the inn. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing that the staff was able to help you enjoy your Charleston experience. The Husk Package is a wonderful way to be able to stay with us and to eat at one of the best restaurants in the United States. We look forward to seeing you again.

If your looking for something between a B&B and a regular hotel the Elliot House is perfect. The location on Queen street sets you up to explore Charleston on foot or to grab the trolley. An overpriced parking garage across the street made sure i didnt have to risk denting my rental car parking on the street. The only drawbacks were anemic water pressure in the shower, and you are attached to 82 Queens courtyard, so if you like to go to bed before ten youll have to overcome the sounds of outdoor dining. In addition to being located next to 82 Queen, Husk and Poogans Porch are a few steps away both have excellent food.

Regarding the type of property we are - you are 100% correct, Elliott House Inn is a hybrid between B&B and a regular hotel. Being sandwiched between some of the best restaurants in Charleston is one great feature of the property, especially since most of the restaurants on Queen Street don't stay open extremely late. 82 Queen restaurant provides room service to our guests, which is a great feature to take advantage of. We'd love to have you back again in the near future! Thanks so much for taking the time to post a review.

The central location is admittedly great but the place is tired and room smelled of mildew and some sweet scent used to mask the problem. The shower had barely enough water pressure to get wet and overall there are just too many other hotels in the area to compromise this much.

I'm saddened to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We are a unique property that features a historically renovated building for sleeping quarters. I can assure you that moisture smells in the rooms are not a common issue, but one we take very seriously. It is never our intention to mask any smells in rooms, I'm sorry you feel that we've done so. Regarding the water pressure, perhaps the flow restrictor was on your specific shower head. Had we known, perhaps we could have moved you to a different area of the building. I’m confident that many or all of the issues you encountered in your room could have been remedied, if given an opportunity.

This is an excellent hotel in an excellent location. When you go to Charleston you want to stay in a local Inn - and this is THE place to do it. You couldn't ask for a better location - everything is walking distance. The rooms had so much character, the courtyard was beyond beautiful & the service was top notch. The staff was very knowledgeable & really helped us with designing our trip. When I go back to Charleston, I will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Might want to stay on 2nd floor so you don't hear the people above you walking around.

I stayed in Room 10. The room had minimal space to accommodate luggage. I only had 2 small bags. The room also smelled strongly of Raid Bug Spray. The worst though was the noise. Room 10 is right by the street and Husk Restaurant's courtyard. It was very noisy until midnight and again in the morning starting around 7AM. The bathroom was really nice. Great shower. I also liked the pretty Charleston style courtyard with the large hot tub. I used one of the inn's bikes and that was nice. However, I was warned when I checked in that they had a very limited number of bikes and they may not be available. I thought the Elliott House was overpriced for what I got. During my next stay, I want to try out the Vendue Inn which is nearby.

Thank you commenting on your recent stay with us. Room 10 provides an armoire for hanging clothes and an additional luggage rack, I apologize if this wasn't enough space to accommodate your belongings. If we were told, we could have provided you with more luggage racks. Regarding the smell in your room, we get monthly pest control serviced in all our guest rooms once a month. We don't keep Raid onsite for our rooms, because of this pest control service we use. Perhaps the smell was cleaning chemicals used to clean your bathroom, I am sorry about this, we understand that some of our guests are sensitive to smells such as this. I'm happy to see that you took advantage of the bicycles and courtyard during your stay with us! While room 10 can be a bit noisy due to its location near the street, we are very honest with our guests when booking rooms located next to the street. We've created a room type that notifies the guest that they are booking a "street view" room prior to arrival and provide courtyard rooms to book that are located further in the back in a quieter area of the hotel. Next time, I would encourage you to rent one of those rooms. Please give us another try when visiting Charleston. I think you'll find that we are just as fantastic as the Vendue Inn!

The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and individually designed - our friends' room was different from ours. The beds were SO comfy. I had a bit of noise from the restaurant next door after they closed - the staff cleaning up, but it didn't last long. Breakfast was adequate, with three choices. It would have been nice to have a little more than a bagel and half a grapefruit. Location was perfect - in walking distance of whatever we needed. Would definitely stay again and would thoroughly recommend this to anyone.

The Elliott House Inn is in a great location for your walking tour of the Charleston historic district. It's location makes me give it 4 stars instead of 3. We stayed in room 33. The room was medium size and has hardwood floors. Nice furniture including a 4 poster bed and armoire. There was one window looking at the wall of the restaurant next door. The bathroom was large enough and had a walk in shower with hot water that takes a minute to arrive. There was quite a bit of noise at night from the restaurant next door. There were enough electric outlets for my gadgets. The Internet WiFi signal was sometimes good, sometimes not so good. The included breakfast was delivered to our room each morning. It was very skimpy compared to what we are used to getting at other hotels. Don't plan on filling up on the hotel breakfast and then just having a light snack for lunch. They also put out a couple of bottles of wine, and a tray of cheese and crackers in the evening. Again, I would call it skimpy. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay. The rooms are smaller than larger hotels, because of the design of the old house the rooms are shaped a little smaller, but definitely enough room to move around. As the reviewer mentioned the breakfast is meant to get you up and get you going, the inn is surrounded by several breakfast restaurants that offer a full breakfast. However, we are looking to modify our breakfast in the next coming months. Once again, thank you for taking the time to express your views on your stay.
