This was our first visit to Charleston so we really didn't know anything about the area. I am so glad we picked the Kings Courtyard Inn! The location is perfect, we could walk everywhere easily. We walked out one side right onto King Street, the other out and down the alley to Meeting Street. The hotel is old but that is part of it's charm. I loved the old wood floors everywhere and our room was really cute. We had two big windows that looked down on a courtyard, the decor was simple but really lovely and perfect for the historic feel of the building. The King bed was very comfortable and our room was quiet. Everyone we talked to there was friendly and helpful, they gave us a great recommendation for lunch (Amen Street Fish and Raw Bar...fab). We would definitely stay here again!

This was a fantastic hotel for our weekend stay. It was one of the least expensive places we found but was full of charm and hospitality! Our room was perfect with a king size bed, well-decorated. The hotel offers free continental breakfast everyday, a hot breakfast is offered for a nominal fee. My husband and I split a 3 egg omelet each morning for $8 and then enjoyed the free continental as well, more than enough breakfast to tide us over until late lunch. There is coffee in the lobby each morning and you can help yourself. It's actually very good coffee too. Each afternoon, they have a wine and cheese hour, also included with your stay.

This place was in the perfect location, everything to see was right out the back door and a couple of blocks in one direction or the other. We could walk to everything.

The walls are thin so we could hear the staff moving around during the day but it was a quiet environment at night, no problems with noise while we were sleeping. We would definitely stay here again in the future!

We chose to stay at the Kings Courtyard Inn because of the location and price. So many of the hotels in downtown Charleston have become obscenely expensive but the rates at the Kings Courtyard were fair enough. The room was fine, but we were really impressed with the location, parking, staff, wine and cheese, and breakfast. I have no doubt that we will return to the Kings Courtyard. I do wish they would add in-room safes. Other than that, I am sold on this place.

The city of Charleston is a real treasure, something for everyone: Wonderful history, museums, shopping, a wonderful Aquarium and terrific restaurants. Charleston is an expensive city and Kings Courtyard Inn is very good value. First it is located in the center of all the activity making the city very walk able. Second, the Inn includes many extras including morning coffee, continental breakfast with the option to buy at reasonable cost; cooked breakfast, afternoon wine and cheese and evening sherry. The inn is in a historic building with lovely rambling terraces and several courtyards to enjoy, to have breakfast and evening wine and cheese. The inn is old but well taken care of and clean. Sitting in one of the courtyard at dusk, I felt like I was back in Italy. The rooms are well appointed, but don't expect state of the art, modern facilities. The water pressure is low but acceptable. We had a lovely 3rd floor corner room with two beds, away from the elevators and stairs. The inn is charming and has wonderful atmosphere which makes it an interesting place to stay. The staff was excellent and very helpful. The breakfast staff was particularly efficient and friendly. It is a great hotel if you are traveling alone, for couples and girlfriend get togethers; a nice clientele, safe and quiet.

Room Tip: The double bedrooms are large. We stayed in 308 which was on a quiet corner away from the stairs and...

We were staying in Charleston for just one night and were so happy to stumble upon this Inn. Our room was a vintage beauty, large and clean. The location was great and the complimentary breakfast and drinks were a bonus. My toddler loved throwing pennies into the lovely courtyard fountain just outside our room. We would love to stay here again.

This was our second visit to Kings Courtyard Inn. The first visit (about two years ago) we found it to be funky-charming, this time, dowdy-charming. However, as other reviewers have noted, the location is great, the staff is terrific, and the experience (including the breakfast and wine & cheese) is worth the price.

if we ever return to Charleston, it definitely will NOT be in early April. Owing to the confluence of Spring break, a tennis tournament and a foot race, Charleston was wall-to-wall people and cars while we were there. We enjoyed our visit, but were glad to get out of town.

Room Tip: If you want a large room, one of the double-bed rooms on the 3rd floor, rear are good sized for an o...

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience. We are thrilled that you decided to stay with us for a second time. I am happy that you had a pleasant stay, but am sorry it was not another five-star experience. We take all guest feedback very seriously. You will be happy to know that in the upcoming months, we plan to undergo a few cosmetic changes. I hope you choose to visit with us upon your return to Charleston.

I spent 2 great nights at this inn. The location can't be beat. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The little "extras" such as wine/cheese in the afternoons and the continental breakfast added to the value. Definitely will be back.

Room Tip: 306 is off the beaten path to other rooms. 301 and 302 are near elevator so I would ask not to be th...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Built in 1853, Kings Courtyard Inn is one of downtown Charleston, South Carolina's most historic inns. Architect Francis D. Lee designed the three-story antebellum structure in the Greek revival style with unusual Egyptian detail. The building is one of King Street's largest and oldest structures, and has had many uses during its 150 year existence. The building has housed high quality shops, private residences and at one time, the upper floors served as hotel rooms for plantation owners, shipping interests and merchant guests. Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Kings Courtyard Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches and only a block away from the City Market. Here, one may explore interesting shops or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city's many delightful restaurants. ... more   less
