“Food food everywhere and not a bite to eat”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

We stayed here last week while I was coordinating an event across the street so the location was very convenient. Our room was upgraded while we checked in and that was very nice. The room was small as expected but the bed was exquisite and so tall it comes with steps! The bathroom has a bit of an odd layout and it feels like the shower and toilet are stuffed in the corner. My husband is 6'8" and he had to take the toilet paper roll off the wall to sit on the toilet. He also found the shower to be quite small. We didn't know that the hotel was being renovated and that the breakfast, currently advertised on their website, is no longer offered and that was very disappointing. They do offer coffee and the worlds smallest muffins but that was not going to be substantial enough for us. While there are many restaurants in the area most do not open until 11:00 am so we ended walking 8-10 blocks down by the market to find breakfast. When we came back at 10:00 am they had already put the coffee away! Don't anticipate finding any coffee in the hotel or in the area between 10:00 - 11:00 am. I think they should just put coffee makers in the room.

The phenomenal service began the moment we stepped into the hotel. Upon checking in, we were pleased to find we had been upgraded from the interior queen to a traditional queen room. The warm welcome from all of the staff did not stop there. We enjoyed an hour of complimentary wine and cheese cozied up by the fire in a charming room downstairs. Then, we walked down East Bay to enjoy the incredible cuisine that Charleston has to offer. This hotel is perfectly placed between the water, Charleston Market, and incredible restaurants. We thank the concierge, Mr. Fagerstrom, and all of the staff for this relaxing and romantic experience.

The staff is awesome. The Vendue bought The Anchorage across the street and The Vendue is shut down for a total remodeling so if you book where you used to stay it's NOT the same. Our upgrade to a King Fireside room was pretty disappointing. The first floor room was really claustrophobic and cramped. Using the fireplace warmed up the room on an ununusually cold Thankgiving weekend but the bathroom remained freezing cold. The whole place is just a bit tired and grubby around the edges, all of the upholstry on the chairs and all the rugs need a cleaned. The day-to-day service was excellent, the cleaner used a LOT of bleach to clean the bath. . . but the low quality 90's renovation was just TIRED. Staff is trying really hard and eager to please but wouldn't go back to this building, wasn't a particularly good value for what we paid. Breakfast offering was just coffee, some fruit and average little mini-muffins, should probably revise their website to reflect what's happening now. The staff was always happy to fetch a coffee or hot water for tea and the evening 4-5 happy hour with wine and cheese was a nice way to meet other travelers, although most were a little grumpy with the current state of the accomodations. The location is awesome, walk out and your in the heart of the historic districts with many dining options.

Room Tip: Main level is cold in the cooler weather and you'll hear street foot traffic.

Enjoyed this quaint historic hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Perfect location, walking distance from the city market and the water.
I would have liked alittle more selection for the continental breakfast.

We had stayed at the Vendue Inn four years ago on our visit to Charleston and loved it so much, we decided to return. I received a phone call from the Concierge two days before we were scheduled to arrive to ask if I needed any help booking restaurants or tours before we arrive and I told him we had been there before and we had a good idea what we were going to do but if we had any questions, we would be sure to bring them up to him when we got there.

We arrived on Saturday, November 9th around 5:00pm to check in. The check woman (Becca?) said all the rooms were being booked across the street since they are undergoing a renovation for the next three-four months on their main location.

She also said the rooftop bar would be closing down after that night and we better go up and enjoy it right then. The restaurant was out of several things we wanted because they were shutting down the next day and didn’t want to over stock.

The first night it was very hard to sleep because there was a light right outside of the skylight blaring in to our room. The next day, I asked if someone could come over and fix the blinds that were up there to not let as much light in. The blinds were broken and would not rotate but the maintenance man said he said he would go up on the roof and cover part of the skylight so it wasn’t so bright in our room. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we had a good experience even if they were under construction.

Overall, our trip was good and salvaged, but it was disappointing that the personnel did inform us of all the changes they were going to make to the hotel prior to our arrival.

Room Tip: The main hotel is under construction so there are very limited amounts of rooms in the building acro...

My fiancée and I really enjoyed our stay at the Vendue Inn. I'll start with the location. It's perfect! Once you get checked in, it's easy to leave your car and walk to restaurants, bars, and other sightseeing spots. The staff were all friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The rooms were what you expect at an historic hotel property. That being said, they were clean and well maintained. The furnishings were tasteful and solid. The managers reception around 5pm in the lobby was a nice touch, too. When I return to Charleston, I'm certain I will book the Vendue Inn!

Between the time we booked our tip and our visit the Anchorage Inn was bought by the Vendue Inn, which is directly across the street. Our booking came with free breakfast. Not sure if the new owners are doing that. In any event, this was a great hotel set in an old warehouse. It is a block from the pier and within walking distance of everything. Take advantage of the rooftop bar across the street in nice weather.

Room Tip: You might want a room on the 2nd floor as you can hear people walking around. Also note the room win...
