“Wouldn't recommend this hotel!”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

First off, Susu the woman at the front desk was wonderful! The location of the hotel was also pretty good. The rooms were of good size, but there wasn't one comfortable chair in the room. They really ought to invest a little in some upholstered chairs! Also, the breakfast was very disappointing. I ordered yogurt and fruit. I was served a cup of Yoplait and a whole banana! I could have been in a convenience store! Finally, and most disappointing of all, we returned from breakfast to find our door wide open. Thinking the maid was nearby, I went looking for someone, but there was no one around. We mentioned it to the person at the front desk (NOT Susu) and we were told "oh, I'll mention it to housekeeping". I should also mention there was NOT a safe in our room....so we opted for no more maid service for the rest of our stay.

Thank you for your review. I am glad that you had a nice time in Charleston and enjoyed our central location. Your feedback is greatly appreciated as we constantly look for areas to improve upon. I am sorry that our breakfast menu was confusing. Our guests have the choice of anything and everything on the menu. We will look for ways to make this more clear to our guests. I am very sorry to hear about the incident with your door being left open. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our innkeeper was very upset to read this and has since addressed the issue with each housekeeper individually. That is not our standard nor our procedure. We are committed to making sure this never happens again and sincerely apologize. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope you will stay with us again.

Sincerely, Richard Widman, Proprietor

This was a really nice inn, with continental breakfast served either in your room or at building next door. You could easily walk to nice restaurants, to the market and to the waterfront. ( There were pedal cabs all over the city to take you back if you walked too far and were tired) They were very accommodating with directions and suggestions. They sent a bottle of champagne up to our room as it was our anniversary, which was very nice. This place sits in the heart of many antique shops
and retail shops and at the back is a large parking lot which was very nice to have as parking seems a bit limited. We were very satisfied with this Inn and Charleston was lovely!

Everyone at the Fulton Lane Inn made our stay most enjoyable! They even sent up a bottle of complimentary champagne...which was totally unexpected and most enjoyed!! We couldn't have picked a better location for our first trip to Charleston. Everything was within walking distance...we did not have to move our car once. The 5pm Happy Hour was just enough to hold us over until dinner every night and the continental breakfast was great.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the parking lot....very quiet and secluded.

We stayed at the Fulton Street Inn recently and it was an enjoyable experience. The Inn is very nicely situated in Charleston and we easily could walk to all the sites, restaurants, etc. The service was very friendly and the daily wine and cheese reception a nice touch. The continental breakfast delivered to the room was okay, but we prefer a sit down breakfast where we get a chance to interact with staff and other guests. Not as romantic as some of the historic inns and bed and breakfasts in Charleston, but still a nice option just the same.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of King Street.

I would advise anyone to look into The Inn for a stay in Charleston. Being right in the middle of the historic district is so convenient, and the cost was much less than might be expected.
Accommodations are perfect.
The entire staff was wonderful and helpful. We hated leaving. I said I could live there.
Thank you for such a wonderful stay. I hope to come back someday.

Room Tip: Our room faced the back parking lot. It was super quiet. You don't need a view, out the door and...

This Inn is a true hidden gem, tucked quietly along King Street. The rooms are quaint, clean, bright, large and quiet - perfect for a good night's rest. By just stepping out of the Inn doors you find yourself in the center of the action. Shopping, restaurants, and attractions are within a very short walking distance. We loved being able to stroll along King Street in the late evening after dinner and find ourselves at our lovely Inn.

The hotel was wonderful, great rooms, clean, comfy, nice wine and cheese, also great breakfast, all complementary. Or only problem was that we got the room on priceline.com and we wanted to stay another night and the price was high so we asked if they would consider a slight discount since the rooms were empty and they said no so we went to another wonderful place around the corner because we got a great price on line, but would have loved to stay and give our $$ to Fulton Lane. Not sure why you rather have a 2 rooms empty and not want to fill them for a decent rate. Oh well, we would stay again for the right price. Missy&Nicole

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room, better pillows.

Thank you for a wonderful review. We’re thrilled that you had such a great stay at the Fulton Lane Inn. I am sorry that we were unable to extend your rate into the weekend. We are often able to do so during the week, but we sold out on this particular weekend. We are glad that you were able to extend your trip, but hope to be your hotel of choice when you visit Charleston next. Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A romantic hideaway in America’s most enchanting city, The Fulton Lane Inn is private, intimate and exceptionally accommodating. The Fulton Lane Inn surrounds you with the comfort and gracious ambiance of a bygone era. Many of our spacious rooms feature oversized whirlpool baths and luxurious canopied beds, draped with hand strung netting. Other rooms boast cathedral ceilings and several offer fireplaces.Throughout, soaring windows frame captivating vistas of the city's historic skyline, punctuated with the many trademark church spires. The charm and spirit of the Old South live on in this historic inn, built by the family of Confederate blockade runner John Rugheimer. Regarded as the most sophisticated city in America, antebellum Charleston was the cradle of Southern gentility. The proper Charleston home then welcomed summer's casual pace by covering formal furnishings in airy muslin, replacing wool carpets with sisal, and positioning shutters to admit fresh breezes and to provide gentle shade. At the Fulton Lane Inn, that spirit has been beautifully recaptured. Here, light filters softly through louvered shades, casting an inviting glow on lush plants. The patina of fine woods, natural textures and soft pastels invite you to indulge in the simple pleasures of a more gracious time. During your stay, you'll be pampered with complimentary continental breakfast delivered to your room each morning. Our traditional Southern hospitality continues with sherry in the lobby each evening. Of course, our concierge is always at hand to attend to your every need. You're just a mere stroll from the famous harbor, historic homes and attractions. The Fulton Lane Inn is situated just off King Street, tucked away on a pedestrian lane in the heart of the city's famous historic district. The inn is literally surrounded by countless fascinating boutiques, scores of antique shops and elegant restaurants. There are countless ways to enjoy the Fulton Lane Inn. ... more   less
