“Perfect Inn for an Anniversary Getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2012

We stayed 3 nights at the Planters Inn for our 20th Anniversary. This was our second visit to the Inn but it certainly was not our last. From the moment you step out of your car you are treated like royalty. The valets are so kind an helpful. The front desk staff (Especially Kara) makes you feel as if they have all the time in the world to help make your Charleston visit a wonderful one. Kara helped us with dining and interesting places for evening drinks and music. She was spot on - just ask her and you will see for yourself! The staff kept the rooms in tip top shape and we loved the turn down service and our little nighttime treats! We have been in a suite in the main Inn building and a Courtyard Suite and loved them both. Oh, the beds - most comfortable ever!! We will stay again next year for our 21st Anniversary :)

Room Tip: Courtyard has very little street noise but loved Inn room too! Market St. room may be louder but ha...

Dear Don and Kim 92,
We always appreciate when our guests take time to share their experiences with others, however when a repeat guest elects to return and celebrate a 20th Anniversary we truly feel our hard work and service are acknowledged. Thank you for sharing your special event with us and recognizing Kara at the desk, our room attendants, and valet staff. As you mention, we look forward helping you celebrate the 21st Anniversary in Charleston next year. From all of us, thank you again for your patronage and kind words.

We stayed one night at the hotel and enjoyed it immensely. The room was quite large and well decorated. Everyone at the hotel went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming. The location of the hotel was perfect. We have stayed at many hotels over the years and this one is right up there with the best.

Dear Golfingterp,
Occasionally, a simple summary from a guest allows us to remember why we do what we do. You enjoyed your visit “immensely”…this is exactly what we strive for each and every time. Large, well decorated rooms combined with superior service in a prime location make the Planters Inn and Peninsula Grill a winning combination and these are just a few of the reasons our guests become loyal regulars year after year. From each of us, we thank you for your time and patronage and look forward to your return.
Best,

My daughter and I needed to be in Charleston for a wedding. We had a lengthy and tiring trip. We arrived before check-in, but the staff was extremely accommodating and we were able to get into our room several hours early. We had a lovely room with the piazza access. The valet service was excellent. I have never had such prompt responses when calling for the car. Did not get a chance to try the restaurant, but it looked beautiful with plenty of people appearing to enjoy themselves. It is in a great location...within walking distance of most sites we wanted to visit. Charleston and The Planter's Inn are definitely on the return to visit list.

Room Tip: I recommend the rooms with entrance to the piazza. Very nice to sit and drink your coffee in the ear...

Dear Sara M,
We are pleased you enjoyed your visit and our piazza location…..one of the distinct advantages of staying in courtyard rooms. Thank you for taking the time to report prompt and professional staff. Although you did not have the opportunity this visit, we look forward to helping you secure dining arrangements at Peninsula Grill on your return trip to Charleston—It alone is worth a return. Until then, best Wishes and Thank you!

I continue to return to this charming, intimate boutique hotel that is a real Southern jewel. The Plantation King rooms are some of the largest sleeping rooms I have come across, short of reserving and paying the price for a suite. Ask for a room with a fireplace for that added ambience. Did I mention that the Planter's Inn has the best, most convenient address in Charleston! Have the valet park your car (at a modest daily fee), and then walk the city. It is all at your fingertips, including the market directly across the street. Complimentary coffee/teas in the lobby in the morning, and lemonade in the afternoon also in the drawing room off the lobby. Then finish your day off with a fabulous dinner in the highly-rated Peninsula Grill restaurant.

Being in the industry myself, I know 5-star quality, and the Planter's Inn could exceed that rating. This property also has meeting space around its courtyard, so it is a perfect choice for a corporate retreat, event, incentive, or a business conference. My first visit to Planter's Inn was a business corporate retreat, and now I return for pure pleasure. My husband loved that he got to spend his birthday there in July, 2012.

Stephanie,
I’m so pleased to hear of your return trip to Planters Inn! Thank you for your kind words and posting. It is a true compliment and testament from one of our favorite meeting guests when you continue to return for social visits. Rarely do our guests take the time to mention the amazing facilities Planters Inn and Peninsula Grill offer to the corporate or group clients. As you point out, the serene courtyard garden just off our private meeting spaces are one of the most desirable in the historic district of Charleston to host an event. Combined with the award cuisine from Chef Graham Dailey and the Peninsula Grill team--- guests are in for a special event when selecting us for their business or social occasion. We know you will return and appreciate your time and comments. We look forward to assisting you on all your future visits…business or when you get a little time for R&R and wish to enjoy our city.
Best Wishes,

The facility and location are perfect. The rooms are gorgeous and the restaurant is a dream (and accommodating to children). The hotel service, however, doesn't measure up. We had dirty sheets when we checked in that had to be changed and when the room safe malfunctioned their response was uncaring. I'll come back to Charleston any day, but I won't stay here.

We decided to splurge a little and stayed here for four days in May 2012. We're young and frugal, so probably not their typical customers, but we were treated warmly. The lobby is gorgeous, filled with beautiful fresh flowers and antique furniture. Our room was beautifully decorated, clean, with a whirlpool tub, fluffy bathrobes, a fresh rose...an absolute dream. The bed was so comfortable I never wanted to get out of it. (Unfortunately, street noise woke me up early each morning, which I guess is an unfortunately byproduct of the central, convenient location). Turn down service was a nice touch, as was the homemade candy left every night on our nightstand (especially the praline fudge thing...mmm!). The staff was probably judging us for bringing our own bottled water and a few snacks to minimize extra spending, but they never showed it :) Valet parking was easy and at $20 a day, somewhat affordable depending on your budget (but just so you know, you can park at the nearby meters free overnight if you're willing to get up early, get out of the soft bed, and feed the meter). Finally, coffee, iced tea and lemonade in the lobby made us feel right at home. I was so sad to leave Planters...hope to make it back someday!

Do not hesitate to return! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the visit and the Charleston experience. Valet parking for $20 must still be bargain compared to Chicago, however, your park at a meter suggestion may be dangerous if you park near the Inn--as our street sweepers are known to tow all overnight vehicles near the Market. I’m sure we would be more than happy to help accommodate your request to never leave….or “Wish I could live here…” Call us again for terrific seasonal specials and escape the winter months of the Midwest and try us in December/January for mild weather and all the best Charleston has to offer. Thank you again for your comments.

Southern charm at it's best! When I opened the doors to our room, I fell in love. So charming, warm, inviting, comfortable, southern. Just perfect! The location is great with restaurants and shopping just outside the door. The lemonade in the afternoon is the perfect refreshment on a hot summer day. We were out for dinner one evening and when we retuned to our room, there was ice in our bucket. What a nice touch! We look forward to returning!
