Stayed here for my birthday and early wedding anniversary celebrations. We stayed in the main part of the historic section of the hotel. Room accommodations were everything I expected. Teddy on the pillow was a nice touch. Conveniently located (literally right out the front door) are some of the city's main attractions. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds that the hubby and I have ever slept in besides the king we have at home. Room was spotless. Staff treated us like we were their only guests. We will definitely be coming back to stay at Planters. Worth every penny! Hubby agrees.

We were in town for a friend's birthday and this is the hotel he selected for our group. We were genuinely pleased with the accommodations and service. We were made to feel welcome instantly by the bellmen and front desk staff.

We had a room in the main building with not much of a view. But that was okay with us as we only used our room for mid-day breaks and sleeping. The rooms are charming, well maintained, comfortable and most importantly, impeccably clean. The bathroom was a little outdated, and it is odd that there is only one sink on the very large sink top.

The hotel is very well located. Everything was within walking distance. You really can't beat it. Would we stay here again? Definitely. Would we recommend it to friends? Absolutely. We typically stay in larger hotel chains, but are so pleased we stayed here. This is Charleston... a really special town with lots of character. The hotel is the epitome of its surroundings. So staying there was part of the overall experience and we felt special. You will too.

Oh, and the Peninsula Grill, in the hotel, is very well known for their coconut cake... go there to have some. We had reservations for dinner at other restaurants around town, but made time to have a cake break at the bar... a must do!

This is a great place to spendva honeymoon as we did. The bed was one of the best I've ever slept in, the room impeccable and a good size, we had a king room. The hotel is charmingly decorated and comfortable. The location makes it convenient to get around Charleston and the Peninsula Grill is not to be missed ! We found the desk staff to be at a "concierge level" in advising us on restaurants, things to do etc. When we come back we'll stay here again no question.

My husband and I stayed at The Planters Inn to celebrate our anniversary and it was a great choice. The location was great, easy walking proximity to many locations; the market is across the street. The hotel staff was great, very helpful with suggestions. A great place!

My partner of nearly two decades (Frank O) and I just returned from our first stay at the Planters Inn Charleston from September 23rd to the 28th and I just had to add my personal experience to his review:
The hotel and its staff were the essence of southern charm and gentility from the moment we entered the door, until the moment we left for our return flight home. It is clear the moment you cross the threshold that you have entered an historic hotel that has kept proudly close to its southern roots. Our room was brightly lit, spacious and comfortable. The beautiful reproduction four poster bed from Baker Furniture was truely like sleeping in an authentic period piece bed. Our breakfast in the exquisit courtyard was a happy memory not to be forgotten. And our dinner at the beautiful Peninsula Grill was the best dinner we had in our four night stay in Charleston.
It is obvious to most people we encounter that we are a gay couple who has been together for
many years. And I was happy to see that we were not being treated any differently than our heterosexual counterparts.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 404 facing the traffic on Market Street, but rarely found it to be too loud.

This is a very quaint hotel in the middle of all things tourist in Charleston. We sincerely enjoyed the location as we were no more than a dozen blocks from anything in Charleston. Our concierge, 'Tristan' gave really great recommendations and the rest of the staff was very friendly. I found the night manager to be a little pretentious but, I also recognize I don't have to like everyone's style.

My only complaint about the experience is that Deluxe King rooms are not part of the historic hotel and were built about 15 years ago. Although totally secure, you don't actually ever go into the charming main building, where the delicious coffee, snacks, said friendly staff, and historical building are. The so-called terrace balcony overlooking the courtyard feels a little on the motel side of things and I was a little disappointed to be thinking I'm staying in a historic building to be led into another more modern facility.

With that said, the rooms are fairly large, the bathrooms are built for one and half people (single sink in same room as toilet but there's a large jetted bathtub), which I found a little bit of a bummer. However, the service has some really nice touches. The teddy bear on the bed is surprisingly charming and was the highlight of our room (although you don't get to keep him!) The turn down service was amazing as they left home-made deserts from the 4-star restaurant on our pillow every night. Yes, this was a very nice hotel, perhaps a great hotel, had I felt like I was part of the charm and not just occupying the overflow room...

Room Tip: Try to avoid the terrace over looking the courtyard rooms. They are detached from the main building...

Dear Stevelefeev,
Thank you for selecting the Planters Inn and Peninsula Grill to share your honeymoon in Charleston. We are pleased you enjoyed our property and the services provided by our housekeeping, turndown, and concierge (Tristan) staff during your recent celebratory weekend. We appreciate your comments and would like to point out our piazza rooms do offer some of the quietest locations on property and are quite popular with those who wish to relax and enjoy the fresh air. The architectural style is reminiscent of the classic Charleston single house; designed to catch the afternoon breeze over looking our beautiful garden courtyard. We would be more than happy to assist you with suggesting and offering you one of the many other room options we provide on your next trip or anniversary visit to Charleston. With seven various types of guest rooms, we are sure to find one that offers the historic character and charm you were seeking.
Until then, Best Wishes from the entire team and Charles T. Bear!
