I am not sure how to say how stellar this experience was. The welcome was lovely--we were offered iced tea, water or coffee all served from silver--while we checked in. Then, Travis our host gave us a wonderful tour of the main areas and some history! The home is well done in terms of historical decoration and accessories--all very high quality and comfortable. The room was large, and very comfortable--spotless, with a very comfortable king bed with lovely linens and towels and every amenity in the lovely marble bath. Robes provided. breakfast was terrific each morning--fresh squeezed juice! Wine and sweet and savory treats in the afternoon were very welcome after a long day of walking! Each and every member of the staff was gracious, courteous and extremely professional. We met many guests who were repeat visitors to this lovely home. The porch or veranda was just lovely to sit on and chat with fellow guests and enjoy the newspaper and a refreshment.

the staff bent over backwards to make our stay absolutely magical. The rooms and amenities were all luxurious, while retaining their historical authenticity. Location was fabulous as well.

The highlight of the experience was staying in the only place in the world where you can sleep where someone who signed the Declaration of Independence slept!

Room Tip: We saw the Middleton Suite--LOVELY bathroom!! also the Laurence room was beautiful--both rooms have...

We stayed 2 nights at the Governor's House Inn and LOVED it! The location was ideal for everything, close to shopping, dining and attractions. You could not ask for a better staff there, they were all very friendly and professional.
We were able to stay in two different rooms which was actually nice to get an idea of what the other rooms were like. Each room had its unique charm in every way. We loved having our own fireplace in one of the rooms - we opted to stay in for the night just to sit by the fireplace, relax and just enjoy the room. Visiting Charleston in January the temperature was a little cooler which made it perfect.
Breakfast was delicious in every way and after tea was such a delight.
We do plan on returning.

Our recent visit to Charleston was significantly enhanced by spending 3 nights at this wonderful 1760 historic inn in the heart of the historic district. As a traveler with much experience staying at nice B&B Inns, the Governor's House rates with a few others at the very top of my list. There was absolutely nothing negative to be said about this place. We stayed in the Orange Grove room (terrace level) and our traveling companions stayed in the Magnolia Room (third floor) which they were very pleased with as well. The staff is attentive without being intrusive and Hailey especially was very nice and helpful. It's pricey but well worth it.

Room Tip: The Orange Grove room has a king bed and jacuzzi tub (separate shower) but priced lower than other k...

My wife and I stayed her for her birthday and were impressed with the entire experience. We enjoyed the Middleton Suite with large veranda and marble bath. The bed was extremely comfortable and the location was perfect. We walked everywher for lunch and dinner. The staff were very accommodating and made several recommendations for local sights. We have 3 young children, so the quietness was well received. Breakfast was delicious with French toast with orange butter. We will return if we can!

This house is well kept, the staff is friendly & helpful, and the location is perfect! We had an unpleasant experience or first night due to some loud guesses (which they assured us rarely occurs) but the staff was overly helpful to ensure the remainder of our stay was 100% positive! We will go back with family & friends!

Room Tip: Ask for a portable fan if the creaking floors bother you.

We will definitely return to the Governor's House which is within walking distance of every fabulous Charleston restaurant, shop, not to mention historic neighborhood, church, and the Battery! We stayed in the Jefferson Suite---gorgeous, comfortable, private. Afternoon tea was delicious, generous, and elegant. Breakfast was a gourmet delight. The staff was helpful, attentive, but never intrusive. If you want to enjoy downtown Charleston, the Governor's House is a perfect choice.
