When I went I had this place almost all to myself. Make sure you take at least an hour or more to even see the highlights. Historic graves, gorgeous memorials, very touching and peaceful. Watch out for uneven ground though!

I visited Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston on Saturday, April 17, 2004 for the burial of the final crew of the confederate submarine, H.L.
Hunley. I was joined with several other thousand people enjoying the enviornment of that special day. We had lunch in the cemetery as we waited for the bodies to arrive at the burial plot. All in all, I would advise a trip to Magnolia Cemetery if you are in the Charleston area and have some extra time, the historic headstones form the 1800's are very exciting to read.

This is majestic cementery located about 1/2 mile from the East Bay and Meeting Streets convergence. A small green sign peaking above unattended plants, directs you to turn right. Immediately grave markers come into view on the right. Follow the road and take any dirt drive and slowly pass family names you have heard over the passage of time. You will recognize many of them. The grave markers are exquisite and unique. You will see markers from the 1800's mixed in with 21st century. This is one of the most interesting cementeries I have ever visited. It should be a must see when coming to Charleston. I hope you enjoy the visit as much as I did.
