Owner description: Middleton Place is an 18th century rice plantation and National Historic Landmark comprising 65 acres of America's oldest landscaped Gardens, the Middleton Place House Museum and the Plantation Stableyards. The Gardens reflect the elegant symmetry of 17th century European design. Sculpted terraces, parterres, and reflection pools inhabited by swans are highlights of their intricate design. Rare camellias bloom in the winter, while vibrant azaleas blanket the hillside above the Mill Pond in the spring.

The tour guide for "Beyond the Fields" was the best i have ever encountered. Well worth the visit. A relaxing place to explore the huge gardens and grounds.

The perfect place for to stay relaxed! Mi sister came from Peru, She asked me to take her to this place. I never thought it was going to be really nice about history, culture and relaxing. ...

My teenage daughter and I toured all the Charleston plantations on a vacation in July 2014. My favorite overall was Middleton Place and would recommend it as the top one for its appeal to families and making history come alive. The attraction has beautiful gardens and a pair of swans in its large reflection pond for a very English garden feel to appeal to the ladies of your group. Then go across the field to see horses, pigs, water buffalo, goats, peacocks, and a herd of sheep to get close too and wow the youngsters in your group. Also, see a blacksmith and cooper at his trade. The visit offers the opportunity for a horse-drawn carriage of the grounds that I was disappointed to miss due to them all being sold out by 12:00 that day. The house tour was more than just a tour of a home filled with antiques. The tour guide carefully wove colonial, US, and world history into the Middleton's story. My daughter and I had lunch at the Middleton Inn restaurant as an added treat. Our sandwiches were delicious and my daughter declared her macaroni and cheese the best she had ever had. The drawback of Middleton Place is it's overall price is higher than my second favorite, Boone Hall, but the animals and trades demonstrations provide a whole family appeal.

Beautiful place, lots of things to do. Must try: meet the breed tour, kayaking, the restaurant for dinner. Will definitely return. Very cute room. Can't wait to return in the fall/winter so we can try the fireplace.
