Owner description: Middleton Place is an 18th century rice plantation and National Historic Landmark comprising 65 acres of America's oldest landscaped Gardens, the Middleton Place House Museum and the Plantation Stableyards. The Gardens reflect the elegant symmetry of 17th century European design. Sculpted terraces, parterres, and reflection pools inhabited by swans are highlights of their intricate design. Rare camellias bloom in the winter, while vibrant azaleas blanket the hillside above the Mill Pond in the spring.

The grounds of Middleton Place are beautiful. Whether you are a history buff or just appreciate the beauty of new places, Middleton has it all. The onsite restaurant was also delish!

“Welcome to an awesome plantation”
Reviewed 2 September 2014

As a natural closing to the Spoleto Festival held at Charleston annually, the beauty of Middleton Place plantation is such a perfect place to enjoy the orchestra, fireworks, and day of family picnicking. If a history buff or Civil War Era lover, planning to spend a few hours, if not the entire day here would be a shame.

Interesting History, long line of Charlestown who's who.. Wish they would open up bathrooms, kitchen and talk about their black history.

“Lovely grounds and buildings with tons of history”
Reviewed 2 September 2014

We stayed at Middleton for a wedding and had access to the entire plantation. Time didn't permit us to see all that we had hoped for but we did do a self guided tour of some of the buildings and the grounds. I had no idea that a rice planation was right here in the USA.

“See the farm”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

The park itself is nice but not as beautiful as at looks on the pictures. The highlight of the plantation is the farm. We were able to see a water buffalo, to milk the cow, to speak with costumed guides about making barrels, pottery, weaving, etc.
