We stayed at The Restoration on King for two nights as part of a family vacation with our two twenty-something year old daughters. Two words sum it up - casual elegance. This hotel is absolutely beautiful and well-appointed -- really has to be seen on the inside to be appreciated. In our travels, we have found that having that kind of luxury can also equate to a sense of stuffiness. Not here! It felt easy to kick our shoes off and to sink into the plush chairs in the lobby while enjoying a wine and cheese reception with the other hotel guests. And our room -- no words. We stayed in a two bedroom and two bath two level room with a full Charleston-style side balcony that we thoroughly took advantage of at night to watch the activity on the street below. We wanted for nothing - expect the opportunity to stay in this place for much longer.

The staff could not have been better. Everyone seemed genuinely invested in us having a wonderful stay and had that sense of how to provide friendly, yet discreet service.

The hotel is central to just about everything you would want to see or do in Charleston. If walking is not your thing then there is always a pedi-cab or the DART trolley nearby, but even as a heavy-set middle-aged woman with bad feet, I found it easy to walk to most locations I wanted to go for restaurants, shopping and sight-seeing.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone, even if your budget allows for only a single night stay. The experience is worth it!

Room Tip: Loved our room with the Charleston-style balcony to allow for enjoying the mild nighttime weather an...

We stayed for three nights and really enjoyed the luxury of this hotel. Our suite was enormous and would have been spacious even for a family of four. Much more of an apartment than a suite, it was lovely to have a washing machine and dryer. The welcome with wine and cheese was great and the staff were delightful. What more can I say?

We used to live in Charleston but left a few years ago. We recently returned over the Easter break to visit friends.

I have stayed in most of the nice hotels in CHS including the Charleston Place, Wentworth Mansion and the Market Pavilion. The Restoration on King is in a different league when it comes to a family hotel; the rooms are awesome, comfortable, large, and modern with exposed brick walls and stainless steel kitchens. The location is perfect, right off the main road of King street (which is sometimes a little noisy but mostly OK). There is no restaurant but that is OK as you are in Charleston, one of the greatest restaurant towns in the US! Another downside is no pool but I think the only proper hotel with pool downtown is the Charleston Place.

The service (without exception) is amazing and the General Manager Howard is world class. We had a few minor issues during our stay (they are extending the hotel and power had to be shut off for 1/2 day) but these were resolved by him perfectly.

For a family with small children it is certainly the best option in Charleston. I only wish that there were more of these types of hotels in other cities.

This boutique hotel is very conveniently located in the middle of everything. It made it easy to always come back to our room to drop off things or cool off from the hot Charleston sun. The staff was great! Always willing to help and give great advice. Loved that it was a mini apartment with full kitchen. It really made you feel like you were a native of Charleston living in the city. Breakfast was delivered in a picnic basket every morning. Beautiful presentation. My only bad thing to say is that it has ruined my experience of staying anywhere else because I will always compare every hotel to Restoration on King!

As a young married couple it was hard trying to find a luxurious destination without going out of the country for our honeymoon but The Restoration on King made that possible! It was without a doubt the most wonderful and relaxing stay we've had thus far. The hotel began to feel like home with such lovely staff members and an all around welcoming atmosphere. We looked forward to our picnic basket breakfast every morning and enjoyed the wine and beer tasting each afternoon! The general manager was very personable and helpful with our stay as well as Nathan, the receptionist. This will definitely not be our last visit to ROK and we can't wait to go back after the remodeling is complete. Thank you ROK for making our honeymoon the best it could be!

My daughter, granddaughter and I stayed here for a girls weekend getaway. I can't say enough how beautiful this hotel is!! Very chic and roomy. It truly was a condo!!
The concierge were very cool and sooo helpful. Jonathan was soooo sweet and very very helpful! Nathan was also very thoughtful and he made sure all our needs were met ASAP. A lot of wonderful memories made this weekend!
We stayed in room 209 and it was perfect in every way. We will be back!

Myself and 4 others spent 3 great nights at Restoration on King. But first, I need to mention one negative about this place and the reason I cannot give it 5 stars. This is also a note to management and to anyone who wants to book the Luxury Two Bedroom suite with the Balcony. The picture shown on their website under the heading “ Luxury Two Bedroom Suite with Balcony” is NOT a picture of that unit. The picture shows a very spacious and open living room with huge windows. This picture is in fact, the two bedroom suite in the front of the building and does not have a balcony. When I booked the room, a balcony was important, but the spacious living room was even more important since there were 5 of us. I booked the unit based on the picture on the website. When we arrived and were brought to the room with the balcony, we were extremely disappointed since the living area was considerably smaller and it was not what I was expecting. Long story, short, the manager and the staff were very apologetic and helpful and fortunately were able to move us to the other room. So it all worked out, except that no one traveling with me was aware where we were staying, I had decided to surprise everyone and booked the spacious apartment at Restoration on King and kept it from them for months. When we all walked in the room, there was not the same “wow factor” as if we had walked into the room where we eventually stayed. And as they say, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. But the rest of the stay was fantastic. Having such a huge apartment right in the center of town was great. The apartment was beautiful and very comfortable. We did not miss the balcony since there is a roof top terrace one flight up from the apartment. Breakfast was what you would expect in Europe, muffins, scones, croissants, cereal, milk and juice etc. brought right to the room. Unless you are into a huge American breakfast, it was perfect. The valet service for the car was worth every penny. The staff was friendly and helpful. Some reviewers complained about the noise, I didn’t notice it at all, but then I grew up in New York City. Despite the initial glitch with the room, staying at ROK was the best part of our trip, I would definitely stay here again. Now that I know which room to book, which by the way is Room 303, spaciously living room, no balcony.

Room Tip: Room 303 has a spacious living area with huge windows overlooking the street, but no balcony. 302 ha...
