Owner description: Enchanting historic Charleston comes alive on entertaining and informative walking tours with 7th-generation Charleston native Michael Trouche. Discover stunning architecture, glorious gardens, Civil and Revolutionary War sites, cobblestone streets, wrought iron gates, legendary graveyards, and the local flavor of the fabled “Holy City” that no one knows better than Michael, who grew up in the famous "South of Broad" area, and has written two popular books on Charleston, where his family has lived for more than 215 years. Michael won numerous prestigious awards as host of the acclaimed "Carolina Camera" television program for 20 years on the local Charleston CBS affiliate, and has charmed tour guests for 10 years with his unparalleled knowledge of South Carolina's history, culture, plants and animals, as well as colorful insights, locations and anecdotes that only a lifelong Charleston native would truly know.

I have traveled extensively in over 70 nations. This may have been the best presentation of history in a walking tour that I have ever experienced. Michael is a highly skilled communicator. He weaves history, culture and personal stories into a 2 hour masterpiece. I would have enjoyed it had I only heard it, and didn't get to see what he was talking about. It was that well presented. Michael says more in two minutes, than many tour guides do in fifteen.

Don't miss this!

This is a great way to see the city of Charleston. My wife and I have taken the horse drawn tours but liked this one much better. Michael knows his stuff and is a pleasant personality to be around. He kept all on the tour entertained the entire two hours.

We plan to go back to several places visited to spend a little more time.

All in all, a great tour.

Michael Trouche gave the best tour that I have ever taken anywhere, hands down! His intimate knowledge of Charleston, strong wit, friendly demeanor, and unwavering enthusiasm makes for a fantastic experience. Michael was able to bring to life the complexities of Charleston culture that existed during the "war between the states," highlight the changes that the city has undergone over the decades, and provide some hilarious historical anecdotes that are truly unbelievable. He pointed out the Latin names of all of the indigenous flowering trees and plants, and gave a colorful history of the architectural creations that make Charleston so beautiful. In short, I would recommend Michael's tour to everyone, including native Charlestonians! He really makes the city shine!!

Michael does an exceptional job of giving you an overview of the city and its highlights. He speaks knowledgeably and lovingly about his home town. I was impressed how diverse his knowledge of the city was - from architecture to religion and history and the arts. We were a mix of first time and previous visitors to Charleston and we all equally enjoyed his tour. It was a super hot day but he was careful to give us a break from the sun. We worth the time but make sure to sign up in advance. He was turning away people from our group because he likes to keep the groups a manageable size.

We had the pleasure of hosting a California family for a Charleston visit of several days. As an an itinerary item we scheduled a tour with Michael Trouche. It was fabulous. Michael's knowlege of this city's history is encyclopaedic ranging over architecture, botony, geology, artisanship, trade, war, African-American culture to name a smattering of topics. The beauty of streetscapes, homes, gardens, churches, graveyards were offered for view and explained in extraordinary detail. His delivery was deep on detail but laced with humor of his own making as well as humerous anecdote. He has lived and breathed this city his whole life and his experiences and interest in her history have made him an accomplished historian of the city. Our California friends were wowed by the quality and substance of the tour as well as its sheer fun. And so were we. -----MDI

Thank you for the kind review. I was my great pleasure to have your present and future family on the tour the other day. The most enjoyable aspect of this profession is meeting and getting to know delightful people from all over the world. When I’m in the company of folks like you, who have such enthusiasm and good humor, it certainly doesn’t seem like work. I’m also immensely proud of this city and love to share it with others.
Regards, Michael Trouche
