There are very few places that compare to both the history and beauty that you experience at the Battery. Southern colonial mansions on the water overlooking Ft Sumpter and the downtown historic district. You can't go wrong here!

This is a park at the end of Meeting and East Bay Streets. There are benches as well as areas to stroll. One can look at the bay or at the street lined with old houses. There are some canons in the park. Part of the area at one end is under construction, so not as nice for picture taking. There are lots of big tall trees to provide shade from the hot sun, and a nice place to rest while taking a walking tour of the southern part of the Historic district where all the famous spots are located.

Battery Park is just beautiful! My family and I went here twice during our visit to Charleston. It's located in historic Charleston, with views of the water and some gorgeous homes. When you go, definitely take a camera, as you'll find many opportunities to use it! Battery Park is tree-lined, has a gazebo, and batteries (cannons) from the Civil War era. There are also some statues and monuments to look at. We had no problem finding parking, and once you venture out of the park, you can walk along the harbor on East Battery and Rainbow Row.

As others have noted, there is some construction going on at the end of the park (closest to the harbor). I believe they are constructing a sea wall. It's not a deal-breaker. The scenery itself it so pretty that you will hardly even notice.

Definitely a sight worth visiting during a trip to Charleston!

Start your walk down by the Waterfront Park and walk south toward the battery. The seawall is undergoing some construction and parts of it are closed off. Simply take the steps and walk down on the street to continue toward Battery Park. Check out the cool cannons along the battery wall and look for the very nice sculptures throughout the park. Very nice area!!

Construction going on all around it so didn't have that serene, peaceful garden feel. However, definitely worth the walk along the Battery
