My husband and I stayed here for a quick weekend getaway and we will be back whenever we are in Charleston. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms a spacious, and everything is very clean. The location is perfect so that dining and shopping are easily walkable. And the bar is very nice. Chris is the bartender and he is clearly a professional. Everyone was welcoming and nice, and this hotel is a perfect place to stay when you want to be in the historic district of Charleston.

This is my second time staying at this Renaissance Marriott and the reason why I selected it for my Spoleto vacation was 1) had a great experience staying here before and 2) it's in a terrific location. Before I arrived, I spoke to Yolanda (hope my memory of her name isn't failing me) who could not have been any nicer to accommodate my room requests (and because I'm a Gold elite, she was able to upgrade me to a patio). Check-in was very smooth and we especially enjoyed our breakfasts in the morning where Jay, our server, greeted us (by name) every morning. He is stellar! My only complaint (& I believe this has been mentionned before) is that there is no fan in the bathrooms so the mirrors do steam up quickly and take awhile to clear up).

Overall, a fantastic stay at the Rennaisance Charleston!

Stayed for one night in a king bed room. Room was spacious, quiet and clean. We chose to park across the street in the public garage which was 12 dollars for the night. Once we parked we never used the car again until we checked out to leave on Sunday morning. We walked to King street, the Market, the Battery and over to East Bay all easily from this hotel. Will definitely stay here again.

Stayed for 3 nights over spring break and was very impressed. Easy access to the Historic area and sights. Many enjoyable restaurants close by. Room was comfortable and bedding was new. Would definitely stay again.

Meeting street is on one side and King Street is on the other. (King is the main shopping street. Only 3 blocks from a grocery store, 5 blocks from a CVS pharmacy, and about 5 blocks from market place (4 block long daily flea market) and carriage rides (several companies from $21 to $25 per person). You can also walk to the Aquarium and to the ferry that takes you to Fort Sumter (about 8/10ths of a mile). The hotel itself is quiet and comfortable with 2 inch down mattress toppers on the beds, reasonable menu prices, coffee makers and refrigerators in each room, complimentary tokletries and complimentary bottled water (which you will need in the summer)!

We stayed here over a long weekend and picked the hotel primarily for it's location. It is within walking distance to everything in the historic area.

The good stuff:
1) The staff was exceptional! The level of service we received was on par with a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton hotel. Well done!!!!
2) The location - it is one block of King st and Meeting St. It is surrounded by fantastic restaurants and top dollar shopping.
3) Our room was comfortable and clean

The not so good stuff:
1) This place could really use a coat of paint. The hall walls are really scuffed and marked up and this sets a subliminal message that it is dirty. It is not. It is worn.
2) The food is your standard Marriott so so cuisine. This is a real shame. This area is well known for great food and this hotel hasn't made an effort. Our breakfast was so average that we decided definitely not to try any other meals there. When we returned from dinner on Saturday night only two tables were occupied in the dining room (peak time). I guess others felt the same way.

On our next visit we will stay at another location where their is as much pride in the restaurant as there is the hotel.

Room Tip: Do not waist money to upgrade to a room with a patio. They are expensive and basically overlook an a...

Brian W, General Manager at Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel, responded to this review, 30 May 2014
Thank you very much for your comments. I agree that our location is perfect, but what we pride ourselves on is offering an exceptional service experience. After reviewing your posting together, our team of Ambassadors was proud that you compared the service they provided to some extraordinary brands to include our sister brand, Ritz-Carlton. At Renaissance, our goal is to provide an experience that’s intriguing, indigenous, and independent throughout the hotel and I agree that it’s a shame that you felt that way about part of the hotel but not during your meal in our restaurant. I promise that we’ll utilize your feedback to ensure that our breakfast better aligns with our core values and hope that you may allow us another opportunity in the future. Thank you again.

Regards,

Brian Wander
