Great spa, great location to walk around downtown, great beds and great spa. For a nice weekend away this is the place to do it. Hidden just off Meeting Street, the Belmond Charleston Place has all the charm and class of the city itself.

My wife, daughter and I recently stayed at Charleston Place and couldn't have been more pleased. When we arrived 4 hours before check-in time our room wasn't ready yet. We were immediately offered an upgraded newly-renovated room at no additional cost that was ready for check-in. Nice touch! The hotel's location and ambiance is the best we've seen in Charleston. It couldn't be more convenient to the shopping on King or the many nearby restaurants. The entire staff - from the front desk to maid service was friendly and courteous. The concierge was very helpful with recommendations on tours and restaurants. We also had dinner at Charleston Place and would highly recommend it. The live jazz on Sunday nights really adds to the enjoyment. We will definitely return to Charleston Place on our next visit to Charleston.

The hotel was beautiful and the service was attentive and accommodating. We did, however, have to ask four times for our noisy air conditioner to be looked at, and eventually it was fixed but it took a few days.
They had great restaurants and a beautiful bar as well, just both a bit pricey.
Gorgeous and elegant we enjoyed our stay.

The best part about the hotel is the location on Meeting Street which is very close to many tourist attractions in Charleston. The beautiful lobby and the friendly staff were also a big plus. We stayed in a renovated room which looked new and clean, but it appeared that the renovations were mostly cosmetic. Also, there was construction going on in rooms down the hall from our room and we could smell paint in the hallway just just outside of our room. I would ask to stay away from the rooms being renovated. I think the price point was a little high for what it is, but otherwise, it is a nice place to stay.

This was our second stay at this hotel and sad to say we will not be back. Maybe it was the change in management, but no matter what the reason it is not the best in town anymore. Location is still excellent but there was many issues with the stay. I made 2 room reservations at least 6 months in advance and confirmed them a month and week before arrival. When we checked in, they did accommodate an early check in but then the rooms were both wrong. Apparently they don't guarantee the bed requested (regardless of when the room was booked) and 2 small beds were given to the couple in our party. A king bed was requested. The other room had a pull out sofa, with a charge for the additional person. The sofa bed was so uncomfortable and broken that the guest couldn't even sleep in it. As there were no mattresses available (wow!) they put a wooden plank under the mattress and it was 'better' but...

Another issue is that the air conditioning didn't work well in one room and it was very HOT this weekend.

Upon checkout I spoke with a manager who did nothing. While everyone is pleasant and nice, no one did anything to accommodate or make us feel better about spending around a thousand dollars a day on a sub par stay. Like I said, not going back!

Dear jadore42,

We are disappointed to hear your stay was not what you excepted. We are sorry if we were not clear on our bedding arrangements during booking; we try our best to accommodate guests’ request, but are subject to availability. If you require a king bed we suggest booking a king balcony room or opting in for a guaranteed king bed upon booking. While we are unhappy to hear of your disappointment, we appreciate your feedback as we use all reviews to better our guests’ experience.

Sincerely,

We were expecting the hotel to provide the same type of quality that you find in a Ritz or Four Seasons instead it was a haven for bachelorette and bachelor parties. Each night parties walked through the hotel at 2 am waking up everyone in our party. The 2nd night I called to issue a complaint and the front desk couldn't hear me because of a large party in the lobby at 2 a.m. They did send up security to our floor--I will give them that. We were also looking forward to using the jacuzzi during our spa visit but it was monopolized by 10 guys partying for an extended period. It looked more like a frat party than a luxurious spa. Several guests complained but the hotel just said sorry. Then upon checking out we expressed our disappointment in paying so much for a room with an atmosphere like a Days Inn. The manager didn't do a thing to address the complaint. Save your money and stay at another nearby location.

Dear Mmpelliss,

We are sorry to hear that your visit was not inline with what you expected. It sounds like you visited during an uncommon time when there were more large parties visiting than usual. We always take noise complaints very seriously, and as you pointed out, send security when needed. We are sorry to hear the volume of other guests were an issue during your stay, but appreciate your feedback.
