“Ugh”

A dirty glorified holiday inn. Completely outdated decor, chipped furniture and a dismal dark bathroom. At 130 a night I expect much more

This was a great hotel. The staff were accommodating, the room was great - clean, comfortable, maybe a tad small but we weren't in it very much. But the best part of this hotel is location, location, location! Walk to anywhere in the downtown Charleston area easily from here. It is close to everything but still quiet. We had a room with a door directly onto the pool deck but never had a problem with noise. The courtyard was great for drinks at night also.
Stay here!

I always stay at the Mills House when I visit Charleston and I hope I always can. It is coveniently located, comfortable and the staff is always the best. The desk clerk remembered us from last year, and Grant, our bellhop, was especially helpful. I can't wait to go back. I would live in the Mills House if I could!!

We love Charleston and always enjoy visiting. This Spring we stayed at the Mills House. What a beautiful hotel! The courtyard is enchanting with iron tables surrounding a fountain. The staff was always helpful whether it was helping us find a restaurant or sightseeing. This hotel is right in the center of everything. You can walk to the Battery, the Market, King St for shopping or anywhere else your heart desires. We parked our car and never moved it. We will definitely stay again! Charleston is an amazing city full of history!

The Mills House was comfortable and clean. It would have been nice if there was at least a mini fridge in the rooms so you could put resturant leftovers or drinks in it. We were on the 6th floor and there was a loud humming, almost like a generator or A/C unit was above us. You could even hear it out in the hall way. We told the front desk, but no reaction. The ice machine also didn't work on our floor.
Don't eat there as the food is ok, but very over priced for what your get. We had ordered a coffee with Bailey's and the coffee was lukewarm at best. The waiter tried to convince us that the coffee was hot, but there mug was cold as well as the liquid inside. All in all, it's nice place to stay and very close to shopping, sightseeing and resturants

Booked via Hotwire, which sold the Mills House as a four star property, which this isn't. It is a solid three star, possibly a three and one half star. Rooms are a bit tired, bathrooms small and in poor condition, but the biggest problem is unbelievably loud noise generated by ice machines in the hallways, which actually cause a constant humming noise in the rooms themselves (even the rooms not directly near the ice machine). On the positive side, I think the staff is friendly and helpful and the lobby is old world elegant.

Don't let the fact that this hotel is owned by Holiday Inn fool you...it is a beautiful hotel with a lot of historic "touches" throghout the hotel and rooms. It definitely fits the "feel" of old Charleston. The hotel is one of the oldest in the city, and is on many of the carriage tours as a historic site itself. The staff was very helpful with our requests and questions, we found the outdoor area with fountain great for having drinks/people watching before the night out, and the rooms were comfortable and well appointed. The location is probably the hotel's best attribute...you have wonderful restaurants within steps of the back entrance (82 Queen and Poogan's Porch were a couple great choices), and the rest of the french quarter area bars/restaurants is within a 2-3 block walk. We considered staying just across the river and save the money, I'm glad we didn't...having a room that close to everything allowed us to come and go as we pleased, without worrying about driving back and forth, parking, etc. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are having a romantic weekend and looking for a central location to explore historic Charleston by foot.
