Great location, very clean, very friendly staff, new décor, beautiful hotel. The following are not complaints, just observations and opinions. The new décor is a little too modern for the building, but very nice. I prefer more traditional furnishings. The room, while very nice, is small and best suited for one to two guests. The bathroom is small as well. Be careful not to put your foot in the toilet as you exit from the shower. Also, the bathroom has poor ventilation so steam can be an issue and the new shower curtain rod is designed to arch out away from the tub which creates an even smaller area outside the shower and it is difficult to keep water from spraying out from the shower area and onto the bathroom floor. Furthermore, the new bathroom door is a wall mounted sliding door which does not provide the best privacy. It is hard to explain but the door, when slid closed, does not lock and has a gap around the door. The only wall mirror in the room, outside of the bathroom, is in an odd location and hard to use. The room needs a wall mirror over the desk instead of a picture so that a guest can use this space for grooming as well. The dining area in the hotel has a wonderful outside patio garden with fountain. Breakfast was wonderful but I can not recommend dinner. We ate dinner once at the hotel and the food was only acceptable. Again, overall a great experience.

This is a hotel that I would definitely recommend for first-time visitors to Charleston because it is in a great location. It is in the old part of the city and so it is easy to walk and look at the beautiful old houses, as well as the harbor, but also to walk more uptown, toward the College of Charleston. We recently stayed for three nights and our group consisted of my husband, our two teenagers, and myself. We had a higher up room, with a view of the newer part of the city, and with two double beds. The room was not very big, but the hotel is in an old building and so the rooms are consistent with that. We found the room to be nicely maintained, as was the hotel, as far as we could tell. We were not there all that much, although we did use the pool one afternoon. A minor complaint would be that the room cleaning on one day wasn't done until rather late in the afternoon -- after we called about it -- and I attribute this to there being 5 weddings at the hotel the weekend we were there.

Room Tip: Higher up rooms are probably quieter.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Mills House. Nestled in the heart of Charleston you have modern amenities in a charming setting. I loved the updated decor, the comfy bed, the friendly staff, and the fast free internet. There were staff making sure we had everything we needed for our meeting - THANK YOU!

This reassurance is so relaxing and beautiful to enjoy brunch or lunch. There are some really nice menu choices, but plan to relax with a Bloody Mary, drink or wine and savor the moment. Settings like this are hard to beat. Can't speak for the hotel. Although it seems filled with charleston charm and beauty.

The Mills House probably has one of the best hotel locations in all of downtown. It is perfectly situated near all of the best shopping on King Street, great bars / pubs are all around it and two of the best restaurants in the city are right beside it (Husk and Poogan's Porch). I agreed with many of the reviews that the bathrooms are small, but I find that often in historical hotels, and this is definitely one. The pool area is 2nd floor level and awesome, although it would have been nice to have wait service up there. We stayed in a King Suite and it was a very sizable and enjoyable room. Stephanie at the front desk was amazing and immediately turned a little snafu at check-in around and made our stay excellent.

Room Tip: You should probably as for pool view rooms so you don't get the noise of the adjacent street in...

First off, our trip did not start off on a good foot. Our flight arrived much later than expected due to the bad weather in charleston on our day of arrival. We got to the hotel and were promptly greeted by Griffin, a member of the Bell & Valet staff. He was very welcoming and a pleasant surprise for us after a terrible day of travel. He took all of our heavy bags, in the pouring rain, and took them inside with us to the front desk where a bellman, Pruitt, greeted us in the same friendly and caring manner. The service upon arrival made all the stress of earlier in the day almost disappear. Definitely a 180 since the last time we stayed there and there was virtually no bell staff!
