Great Place in a Great Location - staff was very friendly and helpful. My room was not ready on time but they upgraded us to a better room.

My wife and I took a spontaneous trip to Charleston and decided to take a chance and book a Priceline express deal. The Millshouse Wyndam Grand Hotel was the property that Priceline picked. It is listed as a 4 star property and we had been told by locals that this was one of the better places to stay. The hotel was anything but Grand. From the outside it is not much to look at unless you find the historic look appealing. The building itself is pink. It is not immediately clear where to pull in as the hotel is in downtown and you have to look closely to find the valet booth. Upon arriving and driving up to the valet we were stared at for nearly 5 minutes and no one came to open the door and welcome us. Finally, my wife had to get out of the car and go up to the valet booth and ask for our car to be valet parked. The young lady at the valet was less than kind and it still took an additional few minutes for someone to finally come up to our car. There was no help offered for the bags. At a cost of $25 a day that isn't the kind of customer service you would expect. On our second day there we took our car from the valet and parked it in the parking garage directly behind the hotel on Queen street. The cost is $2/hr with a maximum of $20 a day. There is a connection from the 4th floor of the parking garage to the second floor of the hotel which makes for a smooth short walk to your room. My recommendation is to save the $5 a day and park in the garage. As I proceeded to the lobby to check in there was only one attendant working the front desk to the line was longer than expected. As I stated earlier I booked via Priceline so I was told there was no King bed available so we received a room with 2 double beds. The hotel lobby and common areas are what you would expect in Charleston very southern and very historic in feel. As we proceeded up the elevator into the hallway and access our room we found the room itself to not be that bad in decor. The room was very small. The most unpleasant part of the room was the smell which became more of an annoyance the longer we stayed. The next morning we called for room service to place and order and before I could get the order out was told it would be 45 minutes to an hour wait and did I still want to order. Normally, I would have said no but ordered anyway despite the rude customer service. When we received the meal it was cold but we ate it anyway as we were hungry after waiting the full time told. The walls are also quite thin in the rooms as we could hear the room next to us for a majority of the evening. That may not bother you but if it does I would not recommend this hotel. The one positive factor is the location of this hotel. If you are looking to be right in the middle of downtown Charleston with access to shopping (King Street) and culinary row (Bay Street) then this is the place to stay. I realize some people consider hotels just a place to sleep but for my wife and I if we take a trip together and pay good money to stay at a nice hotel we expect to have customer service at the basic level and this hotel just didn't deliver. If you are just looking for a place to sleep I'm sure cheaper options exist in the downtown Charleston area.

Room Tip: Do not use the valet service. Park in the parking garage behind the hotel with the entrance on Quee...

We arrived late, almost midnight, and check-in was a breeze. When we got off the plane, there was even a voicemail from the hotel to see if we were still coming. The room was nice, the bed *very* comfortable, and temperature control was perfect! Our room, on the 3rd floor, overlooked the pool area, but noise was never an issue. The hotel is within a short walk to the Market area, and has a restaurant on-site (though we didn't eat there). LOTS of good restaurants close by. The special rate made it an excellent value compared to similar hotels, even with the added parking fee. Would definitely stay again!

We just returned from a four night stay. The hotel is conveniently located to shopping and is an easy stroll to the beautiful homes and harbor. The room and beds were comfortable. The front desk and bell staff were friendly and helpful. The pool was a welcome respite from the heat and humidity. Housekeeping could be alittle more attentive. We had to request soap, shampoo, and tissue that were not replenished. The hotel was well appointed and attractive. We did not take advantage of the food services so I cannot address that. The bartender was friendly and attentive. We would definitely stay at the Mills House again.

Room Tip: We had a third floor room overlooking the pool and food patio. The pool closes at 10 pm so, unless y...

The Mills House is a wonderful hotel right in the heart of Charleston. You are near the best restaurants. The best breakfast find was Levi Restaurant right down from the Mills House featuring Praline French Toast and delicious omelettes...No line either. Self-parking was easy and electronic signs told you how many places were on each floor. Floor four was the entrance to Mill House. Enjoy one of the best hotels in Charleston.
