As exceptional as are the rooms of the Mills House, the staff's attention to detail and professional, friendly and accommodating service are even more noteworthy.
The location is perfect for walking throughout Charleston's Historic District- and a very knowledgeable staff (from the concierge, to the manager, to the valet, to the front desk staff) make touring Charleston readily accessible. The hotel is a few blocks from shopping areas, restaurants and key sites (it was an easy walk from the Mills House to the College of Charleston which was the reason for our visit).
One key example of this amazing staff occurred one night when we returned to the hotel after the restaurant had stopped serving. After giving us directions to some of the neighborhood establishments that might be open, the night manager walked outside with us and guided us to a nearby restaurant that was still open. That is a level of service that makes the stay most memorable.
Plus, they could not have been any nicer holding our bags for us so that we we could enjoy some sight seeing on the last day of our trip. They were just as gracious at check-out as they had been at check-in.
The rave reviews for the Mills House and its staff are all well-deserved.

Spent two delightful restful nights at The Mills House hotel. Thought the hotel is now part of the Wyndham chain it still feels like a boutique European style hotel. Fantastic location! Walking distance to everything and one of the HOTTEST restaurants in the south right now, HUSK, is right across the street. Our room was well appointed and beautifully decorated with soothing colors. We were three floors above the pool and it was quiet. The rooms on the pool level have nice balconies but they back right up to the pool. There are multiple terraces with seating areas to enjoy and lovely views of the city. What held me back from giving this property a full 5 stars was our interactions with the front desk staff. They were disinterested and on check in and when we went to inquire about a charge they were more interested in continuing their personal conversation then helping. HOWEVER, I would definitely stay here again.
Charleston is a foodies dream...fantabulous restaurants everywhere...shopping is so so...but wander and get lost in this gorgeous place!

Room Tip: Unless you want pool noise choose a room higher up

Spent a night in this hotel earlier this week and can not wait to go back. This hotel is what you picture when you think of a hotel in Charleston. It has that old southern charm you are looking and hoping for, with the southern hospitality to match. The location is in the french quarter which is where you want to be. You can essentially walk anywhere you want to go. Driving and parking looks like a nightmare in Charleston, so this is an added bonus. The bellhops are very helpful and friendly. They are a nice welcoming face after a long drive.

They king room we had was large and spacious. Bed was fantastic and the shower was great. Yes, the bathrooms are small, but this is usually the case with older hotels. It wasn't an issue. The hotel lobby is beautiful. The Barbados room was a a great spot to grab a drink - we actually had a couple in the courtyard that night.

The hotel is close to some great restaurants as well.

We can not wait to come back to this hotel. We were disappointed it was only one night.

The Mills House was a lovely place to stay. The rooms are large and comfortable, the beds are plush, the hotel is centrally located, and the staff was very pleasant. I was sad to only spend one night there.

The Mills House Hotel is an elegant hotel for the price. It is located closer to the old Charleston homes, then the middle of the market area. I booked a room with a balcony and was a little surprised that their balcony rooms are not private and are located on the 2nd floor near the pool. There are tables outside to use in this area and even though there was no privacy it was a lovely area to sit with a glass of wine. I would recommend this hotel if you do not want to be in the middle of the market area. It is a block from King Street with many shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: Highly recommend a balcony room. Great access to pool with kids and outside area to enjoy.

We believe that we have the premiere location. We are nestled right downtown near the shops and restaurants like you stated, but close and far enough away from the market to avoid the crowds. We are always elated to see when guest enjoyed themselves at our hotel and we want to thank you for patronage and hope that you decide to visit us again in the future.
